Preliminary Report Almost Ready

Will blame poor coordination and rogue elements.

New York City (DENS, Democratic Establishment News Service) April 22, 2005 — Anonymous sources reveal that a preliminary report may be forthcoming next week from the Kerry-Vietnam Debacle Investigatory Committee (KVDIC). Most of the blame, it is said, will be placed on poor coordination between two branches of The Democratic Establishment and on lawless, rogue elements outside its control.

Rumors also continue to swirl that an historian is going to be fingered as a double agent.

KVDIC was formed by The Democratic Establishment in the wake of the devastating attack by Swift Boat Veterans for Truth (SBVT) on the Vietnam service record of former Democratic presidential candidate John F. Kerry.

"They knew it was coming," said one staffer. "They knew it was coming. All hell didn't break loose until August, but they knew the Swiftees were coming for Kerry as early as May 4."

SBVT first went public with their accusations of Kerry chicanery, May 4, 2004. Only right-wing extremist media, such as Fox News Channel (FNC) and Cybercast News Service, covered the event. It is said that the preliminary KVDIC report will count The Democratic Establishment's response to the May 4 event as the first major mistake leading to the Kerry-Vietnam Debacle.

Another staffer explained: "Two major branches of The Democratic Establishment — Mainstream Media and the Democratic Party — made the mission-critical error of thinking that ignoring SBVT would effectively silence the Swiftees in the public arena. Big boo boo."

Lawless, rogue elements were a key factor, too. "The Internet and that damned FNC allowed the Swiftees to sneak past our defenses," he continued, "and hit directly where they could do the most damage: the American public. I can't express the horror some of us still feel whenever we think of that attack coming out of the blue."

One of the main points of contention to be ironed out before a final report can be released is the role of a certain historian. A staffer closely associated with this aspect of the investigation revealed fierce in-fighting among KVDIC's members and staff.

"It all keeps coming back to Douglas Brinkley. Kerry had been telling the 'Christmas in Cambodia' story for 25 years. But it all fell apart when Brinkley's Tour of Duty showed clearly that Kerry was in Sa Dec — South Vietnam! — for Christmas '68." He continued, "Honestly, though, even some of us can't help but laugh when we read about how Kerry's campaign responded by trying to change the geography of Southeast Asia."

Much of the KVDIC in-fighting centers on what blame to assign to the candidate. "He had to know this stuff was going to come out. He'd been spinning tall tales for three decades. How could he think that nobody would ever call him on it?"

Others put more blame on the lawless, rogue elements beyond the control of The Democratic Establishment: "Limbaugh, Hannity, Quinn, Hume, O'Reilly: they really did us in. Without them, the Swiftees would have been consigned to the memory hole. And the Internet exposed the contradictions from Kerry's own official biography. Drudge, InstaPundit, Hewitt, and all those right-wing extremists at NRO: they killed us. In the good old days, Walter Cronkite would have made a pronouncement, and everybody from coast to coast would have fallen in lock-step. Too bad those days are gone forever."

Sources indicate that both Mainstream Media and the Democatic Party were caught completely flat-footed by the lawless, rogue elements. Some committee members — whose numbers are divided equally among representatives of Mainstream Media, the Democratic Party, professors, and movie stars — want to blame Mainstream Media and the Democratic Party equally.

But one source insists that Brinkley has become the focus of intense speculation.

"How could he let the cat out of the bag like that? Some of us have had no choice but to conclude that Brinkley was, in fact, working for Karl Rove."

I did think about that. But, I wanted some time between the election and the "report". April 22 is the day on which Kerry gave his 1971 Senate testimony.
