The Smoke Screen Politics of the Liberal Left

“It has been said that politics is the second oldest profession. I have learned that it bears a striking resemblance to the first.”

Quote by:  Ronald Wilson Reagan – 40th President of the United States

Ain’t it the truth?

Everyday the rhetoric from John Kerry becomes more flatulent and monotonous.  He’s become a broken record of self-exaltation without form and void of any semblance of National focus.

We, as Conservatives, understand his tactic- keep a sound-bite assault going to defray any need to address the issues.  The problem is the “sheeple” that fall for this noise and buy into the non-campaign-campaign of Kerry-Edwards.

None of the issues that really concern the people in this election have one thing to do with Kerry and his military service.  I am not going to address his service record, nor will I address the record of our President.

What strikes me is mainly the hypocrisy of the Liberal argument over Kerry’s service.  Seems to me in 1992, the Liberals were the first to say military service was not an issue when Clinton’s lack of military  background was mentioned.  Now, all at once, the Liberals are claiming to have the greatest War Hero ever running for President.

First of all just let me say that I have the greatest respect and admiration for our troops – my Dad and brother are both veterans and both are disabled.  My dad lost his hearing on Ie Shima during the battle for Okinawa and my brother is a veteran of the 7th Armored Cavalry Regiment and served in Vietnam from 1968 until the 1969.  He is an Agent Orange survivor and has his health problems to show for it.  I am so proud of them both and proud of what they have done.

However, I must say that nowhere is it said, stated or otherwise mandated that prior military service is a pre-requisite for the office of President.  While it may make some decisions more informed from a personal perspective, it is not a requirement.  That’s why the President selects his staff and populates it with people of current experience and knowledge.  He cannot have all the answers to all the problems, but he must at least have the right kind of people in place to make the decision making process more effective.

Kerry is touting his record as if he were Caesar coming to defend us against the world.  The last thing we need is another President micromanaging another war.  As a matter of fact, the last time a President  did that, John Kerry was in Vietnam and the President was Lyndon Johnson.  We all know how effective LJB’s administration of the war was.

Kerry needs to get off it and cover some real political ground, but we all know that won’t happen because there is nothing for him to work with.   His lack of substance and general appeal combined with the vacant minded tort-lawyer lap-dog John Edwards makes the addressing of real issues something Kerry-Edwards cannot afford to do.

Smoke Screen politics is what the Liberals do best- throw out sound-bites, non-substantiated quips and fancy snippets of double-talk.  Clinton and his “gays in the military” thing comes to mind.  What did they get?  They got “Don’t Ask Don’t Tell”.   All that meant was the question of persuasion could not be asked on the induction paperwork or at anytime, but if you got caught, you were still dismissed.  You don’t hear much about it now because the gay community knows they got taken to the cleaners with it, but they took it hook line and sinker.  When the dust settled, they were stuck with it.

The Kerry-Edwards campaign is banking on this same tactic, say nothing, but at the same time say a lot of it.  No substance, no sense, no worries because the “sheeple” will buy into it.

If Kerry was the leader he so insists he is, then why doesn’t he take the high ground and address something other than his war record or lack thereof?  Why?  Because he has NO plan, no platform, nothing to offer.  Even his acceptance speech was more of a “Hooray for Me” yammering session with lot’s of pretty words and the ever pervasive, albeit so overwhelmingly condescending, I feel your pain type tripe he is best known for.

His “calling out” of President Bush to call off the Swift Boat Vet’s anti-Kerry campaign is nothing more than a further usage of the smoke screen tactic.  The instant the President ever mentions to the Swift Boat Vet’s that they should tone it down, Kerry-Edwards will leap to the nearest supportive media outlet (almost all of them) and start accusing the President of orchestrating the entire negative campaign against Kerry-Edwards.  The President is simply displaying his patience and brilliance by not taking the bait.

Think people,  think!

Listen more to what Kerry is not saying than to the vapid, escaping gasses that emerge when his mouth is moving.

Until next time…

Ricky
