Welcome to Blogspirator. While he was languishing in a North Vietnamese prison cell, Kerry was telling the Fulbright committee that U.S. soldiers were committing war crimes in Vietnam as a matter of course. named for the late Sentator Fulbright? Senator Fulbright... the john whom Kerry pimped himself out to in order to gain public exposure for the price of a PR victory for the Vietnamese communists?
John Kerry had a history going back decades with Senator Senator J. William Fulbright.
For example, Kerry testified before the Fulbright Committee.
McCain: Hanoi Hilton Guards Taunted POWs With Kerry's Testimony [Newsmax.com]
...after he was released from the Hanoi Hilton in 1973, McCain publicly complained that testimony by Kerry and others before J. William Fulbright's Senate Foreign Relations Committee was "the most effective propaganda [my North Vietnamese captors] had to use against us."
"They used Senator Fulbright a great deal," McCain wrote in the May 14, 1973, issue of U.S. News & World Report.
I'm aware that correlation does not imply causation, but nevertheless thought it interesting to point out this bit of correlation in my inaugural post.
A little QUID PRO QUO, perhaps? or just a coincidence?
Kerry's Daughter Wins London Medical Scholarship [The Scotsman]
US Democratic candidate John Kerry says his daughter Vanessa has won a Fulbright scholarship to study medicine in London...
Several Interesting observations can be made.
The Congressional appropriation for the Fulbright Program in fiscal year 2003 is $122.9 million. [US Department of State]
Teresa Heinz Kerry, through a network of investments in blue-chip corporations, venture capital funds and municipal bonds, controls a family fortune worth an estimated $1 billion, an examination of public records shows. [SFGate.com]
Of course, that's just an estimate. No one knows exactly how much the Heinz-Kerry family is worth... since she refuses to release her tax returns.
Isn't it nice that a Senators daughter won a taxpayer-funded scholarship
The quid pro quo comment was just for humors sake.
There is no evidence that I've seen that indicates there actually was undue influence that gained Vanessa Kerry her Fulbright scholarship. Conversely, the mainstream media made much hay that Congressman Bush got Dubya into the Texas Air National Guard... the sum total of evidence presented being that George H.W. was a Congressman.
It's interesting to note how differently these two stories are treated.
I don't intend to post any stories I've already seen posted all over the blogospheren - just original research and writing.
I decided to join the wide world of weblogging as a place to put the articles and research I've previously posted only on FR.
Don't worry, I won't stop posting on FR... until I get rich and famous and too good for all of you. ;) Not too likely - I won't be making radio or TV appearances any time soon. I have a voice and face ideal for weblogging.
