Edward "Ned" Bancroft
BANCEDWA

BANCROFT, Edward "Ned" Edward "Ned" Bancroft, 80 of Windsor Locks, entered into eternal rest on Monday (August 16, 2004). He was the husband of Harriett (Croft) Bancroft and the son of the late Albert and Bertha (Gibson) Bancroft. He was born in Northampton, MA and raised in Holyoke and Worcester, MA. Ned served in the U.S. Navy for six years. He retired from Emery Air Freight in Windsor Locks in 1986 after 23 years. He was Past Master of Morning Star Lodge 28 AF & AM, Past Grand Tall Cedar Forest 176, Past District Deputy of Grand Lodge of Connecticut District 6C. He also was a member of OES, the Gensi-Viola Post #36-American Legion in Windsor Locks and retirees Club of Hamilton Sunstrand. He was an active member of the Wesley United Methodist Church in East Windsor and sang in the choir for many years. Besides his wife, he is survived by three daughters, Carol Theofane and her husband, Art of Windsor, Debora Gottschalk and her husband, Peter of Granby, and Jean Cullen and her husband, Robert of East Haddam; a son, James of Bristol; five grandchildren, Brian Woodhouse and his wife, Melania of Plainville, Casey and Jenna Cullen of East Haddam, and Karl and David Gottschalk of Granby; and a great-grandson, Nicholaus Woodhouse of Plainville. He is also survived by his brother, Phil and his wife, Phyllis of Apopka, FL and many nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his sister, Dorothy and his brother Robert. A funeral in celebration of his life will be held on Friday at 10:15 a.m. from the Windsor Locks Funeral Home 441 Spring St., Windsor Locks followed by a service at the Wesley United Methodist Church 55 North Main St., East Windsor at 11 a.m. Burial will be at the convenience of the family. His family will receive relatives and friends from 4-8 p.m. on Thursday at the Windsor Locks Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations to the Alzheimer's Association, 96 Oak St., Hartford, CT 06106 or to the Building Fund, Wesley United Methodist Church 55 N. Main St., East Windsor, CT 06088, or to the Bickford's Habitat Fund 14 Main St., Windsor Locks, CT 06096. Ned's family also wishes to thank the staff at Bickford Health Care Center for their care and kindness extended to them during his illness.
