Are you also posting these to Swiftvets.com?
These guys could use your research. Or, is it in the book already current out there?
Funny how the Democrats rally around this photo when they tried to discredit the genuine photo of Kerry with Jane Fonda at the antiwar rally because of a briefly posted gag composite shot.
Not on my monitor.... though I will stipulate that the hue and intensity are very similar to the water in the background, possibly creating the illusion that the shroud "disappears" depending on how it is displayed on a monitor.
Suggestion: try varying the contrast/brightness, and you'll see the shroud is still there, though with a big blotch that looks smudged.
I thought that that was Barak Obama.
Some people will say anything for a lifetime supply of ketchup.
That's why I think the two guys (who include the democrat reverend) are the left are photo-shopped in.
The real photo actually has Kerry and the other two.

The rightmost box is a shadow cast by what appears to be the lower corner of the left side of the guy's camo jacket. It appears to be sticking out slightly, and that's what makes the shadow cast on the guy to his right.
The shadow in the leftmost box is more complicated; part of it is the leftmost guy's face, producing a shadow on his left shoulder. Whether it continues onto the adjacent sailor or not isn't clear to me; the dark area on his clothing might just be a dark camo area that happens to line up with the shadow on the leftmost sailor's shoulder....

I wonder if the globe printed from a negative, hard print or computer image...
I know nothing about photography, but after reading your post, I'm wondering if there is an explanation for the different shadows cast by Kerry's head (far to his right) and the head of the guy in the middle (directly below his chin.) The two men look oriented exactly the same to me, so shouldn't the shadows be oriented the same?
I'm also curious about the long shadow on Kerry's right arm from his shirt sleeve wrinkle, also cast far to his right. At this point, nothing would surprise me.
What if John Kerry was added?
Yea, verily. Perhaps we have here yet another Rehvvrrrrundh of the ilk of Jessuh Jacksun and Al Shartongue.......
Not to mention that either the black guy or the white dude on his left is missing an arm.....
