A bloodstained knife with strands of hair attached is among the evidence Salt Lake police seized from the apartment of Mark and Lori Hacking, sources told the Deseret Morning News Saturday. The knife is among numerous items taken including a set of box springs, some bedding and computers from the couple's home in the six days since the newly pregnant Lori Hacking reportedly went missing while taking a sunrise jog Monday in Memory Grove. The knife may or may not be a key piece of evidence for Salt Lake police trying to solve the mystery of Lori Hacking's disappearance. But police weren't confirming, denying or even talking about the evidence on Satur- day. "We're not going to talk about anything of evidentiary value," police detective Dwayne Baird said. After learning about the knife late Saturday, Mark Hacking's brother, Lance Hacking, had this to say:

Husband thinks this guy is a sociopath along the same
lines as Scott Peterson. Like SP, this guy's motive
for murdering his wife is not clear... whereas a lot
of murders committed by people who are not sociopathic,
are murders of jealousy, rage etc.
This murder, like Laci's seems so damn senseless,
and without an easy to recognize motive. Like Laci's
murder, this one has been committed (assuming he did it)
by a man who lied to his family and they believed him
and who is so selfish and arrogant, that he offing his
wife was like his right to do. Now he is playing
mentally ill, the victim. Makes me sick.
Did you see where he actually sent out graduation cards and then made up a story about being too sick to attend his own graduation? I think that's around the same time that Lori found out that he was a liar.
NO, I didn't see that!
OMG!
Let me go tell husband.
Herald Soares, Lori's father, told Fox News Network Saturday that if Mark did have something to do with his daughter's disappearance, he wanted him to come clean.
"To a certain degree, I have to draw the line; I want my daughter back," he told the news network. "I want him to retrieve the body so we can give her a proper burial."
An former homicide investigator on Fox News is saying that they have probably told the family to expect the worst and it is called a pre-arrest meeting with the family. He says that that happens just before an arrest.
Bloodstains Found In Lori Hacking's Apartment
Bloodstains have been found all over the apartment of Mark and Lori Hacking, family and investigative sources told Fox News.
Police sources say that when they entered the Hacking apartment earlier in the week, it appeared to have been cleaned. But investigators detected a substantial amount of blood and blood drippings using the forensic chemical luminol, which can make traces of blood glow blue-green in the dark even if it has been cleaned up, sources say. Police say they believe the blood is Loris and that she was attacked in her apartment. Toxicology results that can confirm whether it is Loris blood are still pending.
Detectives meet privately with the Mark and Loris families earlier in the day. Homicide detectives usually inform family members in high profile cases before announcing pertinent information to the media such as possible suspects. Police have previously called husband Mark Hacking a person of interest in the investigation, but have not declared him a suspect.
Police searched a municipal landfill with cadaver sniffing dogs earlier today, possibly searching for a discarded mattress. Mark Hacking reportedly purchased a queen-sized mattress a mere half hour before reporting his wife missing to police. Investigators removed a box spring from the couples apartment late Monday afternoon.
Lori Hacking's family continues to search - and cling to hopes

He has eaten little since learning of his daughter's disappearance, but as he gripped a sandwich on Thursday evening, Hareld Soares said he found it difficult to enjoy the meal.
''Every time I took a bite, I thought, 'Is my daughter being fed?' '' said Soares, father of Lori Hacking, 27, who has been missing since Monday. ''And when I pull the covers over me to go to sleep, I wonder, 'Is my daughter being covered tonight?' ''
Unable to answer those questions - and facing new ones in the unsettling revelations about Mark Hacking's activities on the day his wife vanished - Soares has turned his worry over to God.

Both fathers said they expected their questions would be answered in time.
"We want the truth to come out, no matter what the consequences," Douglas Hacking said.
"There is still hope," Soares said. "But whatever happens, I have learned to forgive and I will forgive."
Police have remained silent on whether they believe Mark Hacking has done anything that would necessitate Soares' forgiveness. They continued to call the matter "a missing persons case."

* A man who lives across the street from the Hackings' apartment said police took a sample of a foul-smelling brown fluid that had collected at the bottom of his garbage bin, The Associated Press reported. The man didn't believe the "protein-rich" liquid came from his garbage. He told reporters that the substance had attracted maggots.

"We're all concerned about Mark. We don't understand what happened. But this has to take a back burner to the fact that Lori is still missing," said Thelma Soares, Lori's mother.
"If we find Lori, we don't have to worry about Mark," Hareld Soares added.
The couple acknowledged the stress of the week was having an effect.
Hareld Soares said he was having trouble looking at anyone without wondering whether that person was somehow responsible for his daughter's plight. "I don't know where she is," he said, hands shaking. "And that breaks my heart."
Thelma Soares said family members convinced her to return home Thursday to rest. She arrived in Orem to a heart-wrenching surprise.
"The whole front of my house and yard and lamppost were covered with yellow ribbons," she said. "That meant a great deal to me."

"America's Most Wanted" will feature the Lori Hacking case tonight at 8 on Channel 13.

What else would the SLC police need to get a conviction ... a video of the actual crime?
Monster.
I just want toi know what goes on in a supposedly happy home that precipiates butcheries like this case is pointing to.
I have no idea.
I can't believe that no one has any idea about the sickness of these people. It seems from what I'm reading that he must have chopped her up and spread her around town after he killed her. That is just sick. Her father said that if she is dead that all he wanted was to get her back and give her a proper burial. That may not even be possible.
Sadly I thought that this,a landfill, would where she might be found after I heard the husband bought a new mattress just prior to him contacting the police.....
My theory: the husband killed her, stuffed her in the mattress, and dumped it at a landfill.......Sad. I hope he gets the chair.(or how ever he can be executed in his state)
Bingo !
We have a winner.
I think this case is wrapped up. She found out and he went off. I predict his defense will be insanity. One thing I'd like to know is this: Was he taking loans from family members to pay for his "education?"
I believe they still have firing squad in Utah.
Check out this old article. CBS
Decaying human bodily fluids or parts will ALWAYS smell worse than that of a bird, rabbit, etc., a friend told me, because of the longer life of and number of built-up impurities in the human body compared to the usual vermin that end up in dumpsters, etc.
""Hacking"...ironic, eh?"
When I worked tech support, we had a nighmare customer with the last name of Hacker. She had a talent for taking a small problem and turning it into a huge problem before calling us. They she would give us to solve in then and there without giving us any decent information on what was happening or what she did.
God help the Soares family! How unberable to hear the ominous news coming out this weekend...neighbr's garbage full of "brown protein liquid"..i.e. blood. Dumpster full of dark hair. Bloody knife. Blood all over the apartment.
This paints a horrible picture to me of Mark Hacking slitting his wife's throat as she slept, and then decapitating her, and hiding her body parts all over town in the trash of unsupecting neighbors and businesses.
He is a monster.
I blame his stupid father for accepting without question the pathological lies of his loser son. He is a man too full of pride to see what his sociaopathic offspring was capable of. He sickened me when he boasted of his son --the Doctor; and his son --the Engineer.
Now his most infamous issue will be his son--the Wife Murderer. Pride goeth before a fall.
That poor sweet lovely girl. May she rest in peace.
Very informative link! Thanks for the heads-up!
I will try.. ty
