A bloodstained knife with strands of hair attached is among the evidence Salt Lake police seized from the apartment of Mark and Lori Hacking, sources told the Deseret Morning News Saturday. The knife is among numerous items taken — including a set of box springs, some bedding and computers — from the couple's home in the six days since the newly pregnant Lori Hacking reportedly went missing while taking a sunrise jog Monday in Memory Grove. The knife may or may not be a key piece of evidence for Salt Lake police trying to solve the mystery of Lori Hacking's disappearance. But police weren't confirming, denying or even talking about the evidence on Satur- day. "We're not going to talk about anything of evidentiary value," police detective Dwayne Baird said. After learning about the knife late Saturday, Mark Hacking's brother, Lance Hacking, had this to say:

Oh, yeah, I imagine we'll be hearing of some tearful confession in which he says, "I just wanted to die."

It is maddening when they say they wanted to kill themselves--but, oops, they ended up killing some innocent family member instead! Like Susan Smith. We're supposed to feel sorry for her, b/c she felt suicidal? When she miraculously managed to save herself at the last minute, but left the kids in the car?

Boo hoo!!! You just gotta feel sorry for a woman who's lost both her children! Or for a man who's lost his wife!

Awwww, I just moved to Salt Lake City last year. I live in a nice suburb. However I was born in Provo about an hour south of SLC, and I like Provo better. :)

It is a very sad and horrible thing. I am 43 years old and when I was a kid you almost NEVER heard of anything like this, and it was devastatingly horrible if anything did happen like this. But today it seems to happen in cycles and is becoming all too normal of a thing. It IS scary that someone who seemed so normal could suddenly do something so horrifying. Plus the manner in which it is done is unfathomable. I only hope none of us ever have to experience anything so awful in our lives.
