n/a | 12 July 2004 | Diixie Sass

Heard something about elections being suspended in November - depending on terrorist activities.

Until I heard it this morning, I had not really given that positively a thought.

What are y'alls thoughts...

Terrible idea.

The US survived the Civil War and World War II without a pause in our election system.

If the terrorists manage to end a two hundred year tradition so important to our culutre they will definitely have scored a major political victory.

And if there is *anything* the Clinton years taught us, it is that we do not want to be seen as the weak horse in the arabic world.

If it happens, the terrorists have won a victory. That would be like the twin towers falling again. We must win this war and soon. We must fight them like they fight. Give them an ultimatum.

My first thought is that it is a bad idea but I guess it depends on who is behind this. Is it from our HSD or the Dims, up to something?

The Dem(ons) would completely flip out.You think the conspirisy talk is bad now?I'll just come out and say it.If the DNC is'nt acting in concert with certain foreign nationals/orgs/states etc, either directly or indirectly than it sure as hell seems like it.They will stop st NOTHING to regain what was lost in 2000.Power is everything to these people. But hey, it's for the children, right?

It should be considered a declaration of war on the people of this country by the political establishment.

We should rebel.

If they impose martial law, then we should overthrow them.

Thanks for the link. I don't know why, but I was under the impression that they could be suspended under certain circumstances and that there was already something in place.

If we allow them to mess with our election process in any way, the terrorists win.

This sounds like something the Damnocrats have cooked up. And they'd give in to terrorsits in a heartbeat.

"looking at an emergency proposal on the legal steps needed to postpone the November presidential election in case of an attack by al Qaeda"

If they attacked just prior to our elections wild horses couldn't keep me from going to the polls.

O.K. FREEPERS; YOU GUYS NEED TO CHILL. FIRST OF ALL, THE ELECTIONS ARE NOT GOING TO BE POSTPONED IF THE TERRORISTS DO ATTACK US ON OUR SOIL AGAIN. IT WOULD REQUIRED A CONSTITUTUIONAL AMENDMENT. I MEAN, IF NEW JERSEY WAS HIT BY A DEVASTATING HURRICANE ON ELECTION DAY, WOULD WE POSTPONE THE ELECTION SO NJ COULD VOTE AT A LATER DATE? NO. THAT'S THE WAY THE COOKIE CRUMBLES. IT AINT HAPPENIN'.

SECONDLY, IF IT DID HAPPEN, IT WOULD BE A LANDSLIDE FOR THE PREZ. THE NATION WOULD THEN FORGET THE ABU GRHAIB PRISON SCANDAL, WHETHER OR NOT THERE WERE WMDs IN IRAQ, AND THE INTELLIGENCE FAILURES OF 9/11 AND UNITE BEHIND THE PREZ HOPING HE WILL KILL 'EM ALL AND LET GOD SORT 'EM OUT. AL QUEDA NOR THE DEMS WANT THIS TO HAPPEN.

Kerry is to busy to be briefed on the situation overseas and he has made it plain that he is backed by certain countries, although I don't think that he has said which countries they are.

And yes, power is what it's all about.

But the talk of suspension of elections is worrisome. I believe that the last time it came up was during the Roosevelt Administration after Pearl Harbour.

They're protecting them from the black helicopters : ) Seriously, this would be an enormously stupid thing to do. Let the chips fall where they may, attack or no attack.

Good grief...you mean they haven't yet? Is the media still going on about that back home?

From the article

The magazine cited unnamed sources who told it that the Department of Homeland Security asked the Justice Department last week to review what legal steps would be needed to delay the election if an attack occurred on the day before or the day of the election.
