Boortz proves to be right once again. He has often stated that the Liberals will fail in talk radio because their form of irrational thought will not be able to withstand scrutiny and questions from the audience. Further in the thread, one respondent makes this very valid point:
Doesn't the extension put them back in the US in August or September?
That's plenty of time to influence friends, family, and the election.
The original posting though ignores the fact that thousands, including my son, and another member of our church among them. No such horror stories have unfolded from them.

What I am hearing from family and friends in several states who themselves have family or friends returned from Iraq on leave or rotation is this:
Universally, without exception, every single one of them says things are much better in Iraq than reported, and they are frustrated with the negative tone of the news coverage there.
Iraq is a big country where an astounding number of positive things are occuring. However, the story Americans are presented with is that of a nation engulfed in daily violent conflict.
There are indeed places which are effectively war zones, but they make up a tiny fraction of Iraq as a whole. That is a fact that is only being reported by word of mouth.
Various interests see fit to continue attempting the Vietnamization of Iraq through negative news coverage and flagrant propagandizing, but they will eventually be exposed for the frauds that they are.

Here's a real laugh I ran into today, this guy actually thought that DUmmyLand has 43,000 active members! A few of his comrades tried to set him straight, but I give Tom Paine the cigar for getting the closest estimate... He figured about 3,000 members!
Some of them thought it was good to leave the number up, because it looked impressive! What a joke!
I'll place an estimate of DEFINITELY less than 1,000!

A modest proposal about turning DU into a massive political force
Some people here have suggested turning DU into more than just a discussion forum, but also sort of a political action group. As a lead in to what I want to say, consider this...
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&a...
Someone posted the Zogby poll, and another DUer suggested that we send the Zogby poll to CNN and ask them what they're trying to pull.
I propose that we form some kind of political action core who would represent DU to the rest of the world. For example, on a matter such as this, our representatives could contact CNN and say (with our backing) "43,000 DUers are watching and we're on to you. We know you're lying and manipulating the polls... please stop". Considering that only about 2 million people watch CNN anyway, getting a letter on behalf of 43,000 people might have some impact on them. Furthermore, this might stop disruptors from registering here, because by expanding our numbers they only give our complaints more value.
We could do the same thing with some of our better ideas for the Kerry campaign.
In order to make it democratic, the ambassadors could create a special forum where they explain their activities, and conduct votes (in the form of the usual DU poll) to decide if we should collectively voice an opinion on an issue.
Lastly, if we implement such an arrangement, we would all be wise to invite our friends to join DU in order to swell our numbers and increase our powers of persuasion
