Theresa Heinz-Kerry, Afrikaner

The liberal press' silence on Mrs. Kerry is deafening. What little we've seen seems to fall in the catagory of a wealthy and charitable benefactress, just looking for ways to distribute her millions in the most socially acceptable way possible. But her image belies her past. Is she a closet felon of some sort? No, but she does have baggage. Enough so that if I were a Black American I would be hard pressed to accept her at face value. Having been born in Mozambique and educated in South Africa during aparthid she is a product of privelege in a land of enormous class distinctions. But has the press explored her role in class/racial privelge as she and her husband seek to clear the final hurdle for becoming America's first couple? Not a bit. She is portrayed as a European aristocrat with a slight disdain for campaining among the American masses in a prolatariate lacking in sophistication. Hardly the prototypical First Lady, even one step removed from Hillary. It would be most refreshing to have the professional press take a hard look at her social attitudes and the potential repercussions on American politics and Black America.

It will have to be a conservative "professional press". I don't know but she has always looked (to me) like a person who would show up drunk at the Dem Convention, a little loud and boisterous. One can only hope.

I watched her on tv last week. Ol' Kerry grabbed her and she actually flinched! I've noticed this several times, when he makes a production (ala Dippy Tipper and algore) of kissing her or hugging her. Very odd relationship there!

This is just my opinion but the average Afrikaners has a much kinder word to say about black people than most older Africans of Tuh rayza's ilk.

She's Portuguese yes and I'm not sure why everyone in the media is allowing this 'South African' myth to be perpetuated. The Portuguese were not exactly known for their colonizing finesse. Know what I mean? So what if she went to school in South Africa during apartheid though... I don't care. YOU KNOW WHO told me he went to school with a few blacks and that was during apartheid even so. I am guessing she went to a Stellenbosch type university as opposed to Natal U. I'll bet she never bumped into even a coloured or asian girl or boy at Tuks Jool or the Coon Carnival!
