Gillespie did say something to that effect. Both Limbaugh and Hannity have stated their disgust that the GOP is no longer the party of small government.

To Gillespie's credit though, he did have a phone in interview with Rush Limbaugh to calm Limbaugh's fears the day after that segment aired which the link links to. Rush to his credit, hasn't been bashing Bush day in and day out like some of "the base" around here, and preaching for listeners to vote for "anyone but Bush".
