Is there a need for a Free Republic daily 12-step thread?

I want to know if there is a need for a 12-step thread on Free Republic, every day (like Word for the Day)?
Many people, myself included, were emboldened by Rush Limbaugh's public confession of addiction. I myself admitted that I am a recovering cocaine addict with almost one year of sobriety (Thank G-d and Narcotics Anonymous for that). There are many others who I feel might benefit from such an ongoing, daily thread.
I'd be willing to host it daily, like RikaStrom hosts Word-For-The-Day. It would necessarily be located in General Interest (chat). Some days when I was rather busy, I might not be able to do more than start this thread, but other days I'd be involved in it closely.
Moderators, could you leave this up in News for a while? I want maximum exposure to the largest possible FR public.

When the news about Rush broke... I began to notice that the BREAKING News/AP link from Drudge's site had ads from the 'Florida Detox' center...

Don't worry-- no danger of that.

Yes Rush confessed--that was fine. But isn't it generally liberals who generally feel compelled to tell everyone (other than trusted friends--and certain posters I suppose) about their personal business?
Too much information for the rest of us, IMHO Laz.

It's a GREAT idea!!! Most Freepers give very sound advice to anyone asking for help....that's the beauty of this place, thousands of heads are always better than one and as you know, there are alot of people who suffer in silence, needlessly....and let me know if you need a hand, be glad to help.....

How about a "12 step way to not hang out on FR for 12 hours a day"? To me, FR is an addiction.
And congrats on your 1 year mark. Here's to another year!

From another thread:
Well said...Many a consevative is a reformed liberal...I am an old hippie whos drug experiences were not for the faint of heart....I never needed a program to stop as I was as close to madness as you can get and sanity was an obvious choice...Ive got lots of family and friends who go to all sorts of meetings however and I cant think of one of them who is better than another

LOL I thought this thread was about the possibility of starting a thread for people addicted to Free Republic. I was ready to sign up! That's what I thought too! After all FreeRepublic is rather addictive and highly intoxicating. Turns you into a news junkie rather quickly. Maybe you should host a FR thread on those addicted to FR [Wouldn't that be ironic]

I would suggest that you just go ahead and run the thread for a week or so and see how it does.

I lean toward yes but from what I know about AA they aint affiliated with anyone ...so a real 12 step group may not belong on a consevative forumA 12 step group wouldn't be affiliated with the forum. It might use the forum, but wouldn't be affiliated. ZIn fact, our merry little band of sober people wouldn't even be affiliated with AA or NA either. In fact, we could blend both AA and NA. I'm most familiar with NA, but I understand they are pretty much like AA.
Conservatives get in trouble, too, so I figure any introduction to help would be good.

Too much information for the rest of us, IMHO Laz.I understand. I imagine you wouldn't want to go to that daily thread, then. Which is fine.
