if things go bad here for the fund raiser, perhaps Jim will consider letting us pay for the banning of our choice. I do believe you're onto something here, Howlin. My former company did something called "Company Jail" to raise funds for various charities we raised money for.
It could work on FreeRepublic this way: Freepers can vote for the screen name they want "banned", one dollar per vote, submittable via PayPal or whatever. We could ask for volunteers to be "banned", and their names could go on a list. The screen name on the list who gets the most votes goes bye bye for whatever period of time, UNLESS somebody pledges an amount of money equal to the votes they received to "jail" them in "bail" money. Then they are unbanned.
A lot of people seem to have a big bone to pick with the banning policy, so let's give them something to really whine about!
