We are seeing the wave of the future of religious right's attack on basic scientific principles," said Samantha Smoot, executive director of the network, an anti-censorship group and opponent of the radical right.

I find it interesting that a group battling to keep information OUT of a classroom would bill itself as "anti-censorship". But, then again, they are leftists.

The problem is that the govt has also violated the Establishment Clause by embracing atheism as the national religion - another Constitutional violation.

We only fool ourselves when we say we know how the world started. What kind of nonsense is it that they are including in textbooks that purports to know.

"If we are going to discuss scientific information in the textbooks, the discussion will have to remain scientific," Berlanga said. "I'd like to hear from some of our scientists in the field on the subject."

Stephen J. Gould would have been perfect for this. My biology course in Texas was pathetic. When it came time for the course on evolution our teacher spent 5 minutes on it and went on to ecology. I think High Schools need a brief over view in inductive and deductive reasoning in every science class. They should gear more of their classes toward experimental methods first, then move on to taxonomy and evolution. From what I see, biology text books are a jumbled political rag.
