There was a bit in Entertainment Weekly about the Academy Awards show in which Dylan and the band performed different songs and no one noticed. And it doesn't matter whether this is true or not.

Laura Callahan has been put on administrative leave after admitting that her degrees were from a diploma mill.

For those who don't know who this is, Laura (Crabtree) Callahan was a Clinton WH IT apparachik who was plucked from an obscure post at the Bureau of Mines in Pittsburgh, PA and plunked down in the WH in the mid-90's, where she was at the center of the infamous WH e-mail scandal, in which several hundred e-mails were discovered to not have been turned over to Congressional committees as required per subpoena. Callahan reportedly threatened contract IT workers at the WH who brought this to her attention with loss of their jobs and jail time if they told anyone about it.

She was an out an out cover-up queen for the Clinton scandals, and her Bachelor's, Master's, and Doctoral Degrees are all from a diploma mill in Wyoming that grants degrees based on "life experience" instead of course work. Her only legitimate degree is from a two-year NJ community college. And now she's a high-ranking IT manager in the Department of Homeland Security.

Does that make you feel safe, knowing that a fraud and a Clinton butt-sucker is running the computers at Homeland Security?

In Robert Bolt's "A Man for all Seasons," in the "trial" scene where they are trying to convict Sir Thomas Moore, the prosecutor makes this impassioned presentation to the jury about how Moore's silence implied that he denied the righteousness of the King's proclamation. At that point, Moore impassionately points out to the the amusement of the jurors that in law, the operative expression is "Qui tacit consentere" -- silence implies consent -- and thus if they are to construe his silence as meaning anything, they must construe it to mean he consents, not denies, the King's proclamation.

Perhaps that phrase used there is derived from the one you posted, but I don't know Latin from a whole in the ground...

From my ever-dimming recollection of high school Latin, I think this extended phrase -- with videtur added to it -- may be (roughly) translated: "Who is silent may be seen to consent."

And this website somewhat agrees with my translaction, but they say: "Who is silent seems to agree." I got carried away with what I took to be a passive subjunctive construction when I said "may be seen" to consent.. I'm still not sure I'm wrong, but I guess it doesn't matter all that much.

Many people are using diploma mills to get (false) credentials for government jobs. With the expansion of Homeland Security, this has increased.

And also getting caught by background checks! I just finished an extensive one myself, so I know how intense they get!

It is so funny that you guys do not critisize other distance education colleges like all the ones we see advertised on the net and television. Why this one so much? I cannot believe all the little webpages that say just what you say. That may even be where you heard it. It makes me wonder why they would waste so much time and energy trying to put this little college down so hard. I think thou dost protest too much. Sure raises my eyebrows anyway. I hear some of you making fun of Dr. Hovind's dissertaion but could some of you link a post to yours for our enjoyment? I would like to read some of your works guys.

I would not want to think there are good folks here who are jealous of Dr. Hovind's success or his dedication. Could any of you question his dedication? I guess you might but wow, I envy someone who stands for something and does not let the criticism stop him from doing what he is called to do. If some of you got punched (verbal)the way you do the punching, I wonder how many would give up.
Could I make one observation here please. You all claim to be conservatives and true Americans through and through. Yet, step back and look at what you are doing here. In this wonderful country we all have such freedoms. We can explore ideas and not be dictated to. The evolution idea has been explored by most likly all who come here simply through public education if nothing eles. Why won't some of you try to see what the creationist sees. Why must it always come down to lableing and name calling. I see what one who chooses to accept evolution is saying, I really do and I am trying to learn to respect that. Don't you think in all fairness, some of you might pay me the same respect? YOu don't see me trying to put down where you went to school like you do to Dr. HOvind. He has proven that he can hold his own in many debate with the best of them and I have seen at least 14 of those debates. Each time he was the one who maintained his composure and made so much more sense and a far better arguement than his opponent. So what if you don't like him, that is fine. Some of us do though. I don't care which organization puts who down. I base my opinion on the individual. I don't submit to peers who want to try to make me think their way. I think for myself. You are all very nice people here. I am trying so hard to be fair myself. Let us stick to the main issue here. It's ok if you believe in evolution. I do not. YOu feel that you know what you know and so does the creationist. How can we bridge this gap and to coin a phrase, "get along in this"?

Oh and just for the record. I attended a little college in Texas (fully accredited) and the place held about 30 students. It was a business college granted, but the place was really a hole in the wall. Maybe we should explore the accreditation system in general. I think the site for patriot university I saw last evening looked better than the one I went to. That college I attended sure got a lot of government money. Looks like Patriot Univ. is private with no gov. monies. See, I think that's a good thing not bad.
