Certainly it is repugnant to give anyone for sex.
That does not answer the question though.

Wrong, many texts written off less then 30 years after event. None of which are cannonized. Keep up. Some of those texts you mention are the very same books that nmh didn't like me bringin up earlier.
Jesus mentioned in executions by Roman scholars.
No. He wasn't. Name one text.
Pharisis crypt just found. Pilot's writings found.
As were King Tuts and Ramses the Second? Does this mean we should now worship Ra?
Numerous sources, more then about Ceasar, written timely about Christ.
Writing has existed for thousands of years. They didn't stop for the supposedly 33 years period. However, now find one list with "Jesus, son of Joseph" on it.
Where is Alexander's bones? Where is Socrates bones? For that matter, find bones of Charlemagne. You either ignorant of reality or conviniently ignore unconvinient points.
Ignorant? I'm not the one, who without any hard proof at all, believing in some cosmic boogey man!

I didn't answer the question becaused it is based on an assumption (unsubstantiated) that sounds way to much like the old "she wanted it" excuse for molestation.

Sorry kids. But I've been on this ride too many times before here on FR. It's tiresome knocking around the same old BS time after time from you "true believers".
Catch up with y'all later...

"Which brings up another contradiction: FR is supposed to be a conservative forum, yet some seem to advocate anti-conservative values like the disregard for personal responsibility and self-control. "
Who is advocating disregard for personal resposibility? And self-control is something that a large percentage of people, conservative or not, have trouble with to some degree.

I do not care what is sounds like, that has no bearing on the question, only your bias.
The question is relevant and possible, especially when there is history of those women in the world.
I do not claim that it is the case for certain in the story, that is prudent.
You refuse to accept a known behavior for fear of harming your bias, that is weak.

"Will you please shut up?! You're offending a lot of people on this thread. "
I'm enjoying the read.. if you get offended easily, you don't have to keep reading. There are tons of other threads that are more PC and may appeal to you.

Geeez! Thanks!
I thought it was only a wet dream!

~~sigh~~
The my first statement (read back please) was that since childhood (yeppers, I am an escaped bible baby) I have found this story repulsive....for lots of reasons....
Everytime I mentioned that 'gee, this is a creepy story', (and it ain't the only one in the bible) it was met with a '...gods will, different time, have faith...now get over it' answer....
Can a woman want a man for power? Of course! There are gobs of stories of women who set out to lay with men for gain of some sort.
Do I believe it happened here? No, in my gut, I don't think she had much choice in the matter....

"I will grant your example of "Baker" (FYI: spelled "Bakker") is an embarrassment. In a world where Christianity is not only the largest but the fastest growing religion, bad examples are going to exist. Nonetheless, you must surely admit, this does not detract from the teaching, person and work of Christ. Christ did not force Bakker to do anything. "
Ok, here's a question or statement.. not sure how it'll end yet. You find people you don't like representing Christians and excuse them as "bad examples" that don't represent the rest accurately. So when you find Pagans you don't like, why assume they represent all other pagans rather than being a few "bad examples" that do not represent the rest?
(and dead corpse, i'm not calling you a bad example, just curious about this.. i'm not going to pretend to know enough about you to conclude whether you are a bad or good example because I definitely don't know you well enough to make that judgement)
