Student in jail for drugs is raped
Gainesville Sun (FL) ^ | June 10. 2003 | Kathy Ciotola

An Alachua County college student in jail on marijuana charges was raped over the weekend by his cell mate, a man already being held on sexual battery charges, authorities said Monday.

The 19-year-old student was serving four weekends in jail on charges of delivering marijuana, said Alachua County Sheriff's Sgt. Jim Troiano. Last weekend was the first weekend of his sentence.

His cell mate held a ballpoint pen to the teenager's neck at about 9 p.m. Friday and then forced himself on him, Troiano said. A member of the victim's family reported the incident to authorities on Saturday.

Jail detention officers, who check the cells at least once an hour, heard nothing and nothing was reported to them Friday, Troiano said.

Randolph Jackson, 35, was charged with sexual battery. Jackson has been in jail since July on charges of sexual battery in a different case that is still pending.

The two were put in a cell together because they were both charged with felonies, Troiano said. Also, there was very little room in the jail last weekend, Troiano added. There were 918 inmates and the jail's capacity is 920.

"If there was space available, absolutely we would rather keep our weekenders in a pre-designated area," Troiano said. "But because we don't have much space available we have to do with circumstances on hand."

Inmates are assigned to cells based on their charges, their history and other factors, he said.

These two inmates were being held in a two-man cell in pod 1-B. Inmates who are awaiting trial or who don't yet have a jail classification are kept in this section, Troiano said.

Jail officials don't house inmates who are charged with misdemeanors, which are less serious crimes, with those who have felony charges, he said.

Troiano said this was the first sexual battery reported at the jail in the memory of jail officials.

Jackson never showed any signs of having sexual tendencies toward other inmates, Troiano added. He has since been moved to his own cell.

I first met Dane from the receiving end of some incoherent George Soros rant.

Let me simplify it for you.

- George Soros, Sperling, Lewis are the big bankrollers for the drug legalization movement.
- George Soros' agenda include a new world order, more UN control over nations, a national police force, and TOTAL gun control.

You win your freedom to toke as long as you give up your guns ....

He died about 18 months afterward, which probably warms your drug warrior heart..

Typical of a frustated propagandist. Start with the demonizing name calling. Really pathetic.

Looks like President George W. Bush is on Soros' phat bankroll now.

The Bush administration said it supports renewing the federal assault-weapons ban, despite a push by the National Rifle Association (NRA) to let it expire, the Salt Lake Tribune reported April 12.

With the President supporting the NWO (remember he is Skull & Bones! FEAR!), more UN control, a national police force and TOTAL gun control, we're doomed.

It's inconsequential to me what other positions any given individual who supports legalization may also hold; I'm perfectly capable of agreeing with someone on one issue even while disagreeing with that particular person on virtually every other issue. That's one beauty of complex thought..

I am hardly frustrated, but rather dismissive. As I've informed Dane in the past, I have no illusion of persuading any drug warrior of anything, nor do I engage with efforts in futility. The only reason I ever comment in these WOD threads is for any potential ambivalent observers (I always assume 10 lurkers for every poster). Whenever I recognize the risk of getting sidetracked by some frivolous sentence parsing exercise on the part of a drug warrior, I seek a means of exiting whatever the subpoint, if I have nothing further to add. Drug warriors typically favor style over substance; I don't.

I didn't address that issue, did I? You asked for "victims," I supplied examples. I see the issue as a matter of exploitation.

From what I have see, the pro-drug crowd are the worst. As I have noted several times just in this thread. Total disregard for the facts when it comes to spreading propaganda.

For example, you label any who dare speak anything that is not the pro-drug propaganad 'WOD warriors'.

The tactic; label and demonize and keep the truth off the forum.

actions have consequences, some worse than others. When jail is a consequence of an action, isnt it best to not commit the act in the first place?

Something tells me that when they decide to confiscate guns, you'll turn yours in rather than defy "law and order".

Really. Like your substance of calling me a WOD warrior that had a warm heart over the death of someone! Now that is REALLY substance ....

Like the substance of you and others posting the unsubstatiated anecdotes about first time drug offenders going to jail. Now that is really substance.

Like MrLeroy (originator of thread) posting about the poor guy that went to jail for his drug possession offense. Propaganda! The guy was a dealer!

Ask cinFLA what he thinks of the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation.

With your post above, everyone will know you are doomed; to a life of total disillusionment. You are just an anti-Bush, anti-Republican ranter prone to throw vile insults about people that don't agree with you liking murder and rape.

One who supports the drug war is a drug warrior, or a warrior against drugs. If you find this accurate description so offensive that you must seek to evade it, then perhaps you should assess your value system to determine why that is..

While I will correct anyone who sees fit to call me a drug user - because I'm not - I make no objection to being termed pro-drug. Whatever the connotation means to you or anyone else in particular, I personally think it's more imperative for society to accommodate drugs than to victimize drug users. As such, the description is reasonably apt, at least in my case.

I never disregard the facts which is why no one has forced me to recant anything on these threads. I am no one else's keeper, in contrast to drug warrior perceptions of themselves. I also don't get 'frustrated' and impulsive with my statements because I haven't the slightest delusion that I will move any avowed drug warrior toward sanity. That's not my purpose in these threads.

Then, according to you, anyone that fights the drug war is a warrior for drugs and I can feel free to call you pro-drug, druggie.

Apparently you are prone to making assumptions and them demonizing others without regard to facts but based only on your guessing. A VERY poor trait.

Yes, you may feel free to call me pro-drug, and I will simply ignore the description. You may also feel free to call me a druggie, which will generally get met with indifference despite the fact that I'm not. It only reduces my estimation of your intellect, which is already rather low, since I hold drug warriors beneath contempt to begin with..

Does that include the right for your daughter's date to be able to buy ecstacy at the corner mini-mart?

I really have no thoughts about it except it is something jmc keeps asking people to ask me about. I always refer them back to him since he obviously has some insight on it.

Are you saying there are NO spammers paid by Soros?

Yes, I'm saying there are no FReepers paid by Soros. I neglected to mention your name in the previous post to spare you some embarrasment, but I suppose you want to go down that road again.

If there is such a proliferation of Soros-paid spammer here, why not report them to JimRob. Oh, I forgot, he thinks the drug war is a failure too. Silly me.
