Student in jail for drugs is raped
Gainesville Sun (FL) ^ | June 10. 2003 | Kathy Ciotola

An Alachua County college student in jail on marijuana charges was raped over the weekend by his cell mate, a man already being held on sexual battery charges, authorities said Monday.

The 19-year-old student was serving four weekends in jail on charges of delivering marijuana, said Alachua County Sheriff's Sgt. Jim Troiano. Last weekend was the first weekend of his sentence.

His cell mate held a ballpoint pen to the teenager's neck at about 9 p.m. Friday and then forced himself on him, Troiano said. A member of the victim's family reported the incident to authorities on Saturday.

Jail detention officers, who check the cells at least once an hour, heard nothing and nothing was reported to them Friday, Troiano said.

Randolph Jackson, 35, was charged with sexual battery. Jackson has been in jail since July on charges of sexual battery in a different case that is still pending.

The two were put in a cell together because they were both charged with felonies, Troiano said. Also, there was very little room in the jail last weekend, Troiano added. There were 918 inmates and the jail's capacity is 920.

"If there was space available, absolutely we would rather keep our weekenders in a pre-designated area," Troiano said. "But because we don't have much space available we have to do with circumstances on hand."

Inmates are assigned to cells based on their charges, their history and other factors, he said.

These two inmates were being held in a two-man cell in pod 1-B. Inmates who are awaiting trial or who don't yet have a jail classification are kept in this section, Troiano said.

Jail officials don't house inmates who are charged with misdemeanors, which are less serious crimes, with those who have felony charges, he said.

Troiano said this was the first sexual battery reported at the jail in the memory of jail officials.

Jackson never showed any signs of having sexual tendencies toward other inmates, Troiano added. He has since been moved to his own cell.

While it is coincidental that I used the word "guffaw" earlier today on FR for the first time in God knows how long, that post of yours isn't making sense to me.

What I meant was if, say for instance, I'm chatting with someone on AIM and I say something the very least bit musing, I know the person isn't laughing, and it pisses me off whe I get an LOL back. Just one of my many weird obsessions.

jmc doesn't like internet abbreviations

You're not getting it. I like internet abbreviations. It's JMO, but IIRC I tend to use them often. I am a big believer in efficiency. I just don't like improperly used ones.

SHHHHH!! You fool! I was trying to cover for you! Stay quiet and he still might not learn about the one-armed man on the Warren Commission who hid Hoffa's body!

Were you around for the whole "George Soros pays FReepers to post anti-WOD articles" conspiracy debacle? Dane was not one of the people involved in that one.

Let me rephrase, since this is something I feel strongly aboot. IMO, the world would be a better place if people didn't lie when they post the term "LOL". I myself post it if, and only if, I actually physically laugh out loud. Am I making sense?

hehe.. I first met Dane from the receiving end of some incoherent George Soros rant. I think I perpetrated the awful transgression of linking a graph from a Soros related site. Said graph I'd found via Google search, not even knowing what the subject of the host website..

LeRoy's whole being on FR is pushing the Libertarian pro-drug line, IMO. He usually posts from around 8:00 AM till 5:00 PM eastern standard time, M-F, pushing the same old stuff

ROTFLMAO!!!

And you spend all of your time here dogging his threads and attacking him!

Well, Race, if that is truly how you feel, you had best be a saint... Because whether you break the law by selling/using weed, or break the law on turning right on red, you are still breaking the law. And what would you say if a mild law breaker was in prison for something that is really not a bad crime...and gets corn holed? Is it any different in your eyes?

The fact that it happened in an overnight stay is the focal point. Not the reason he is in...

Faggots are a diseased bunch. They should be separated from the population by any means necessary. The man deserved jailed time for his crime. He did not deserve to be f%$#ed in the ass...

It did not answer whether you think society bestows validation on something if it does not prohibit it.

I think that's an important point to clarify because you said MrLeroy was pushing "drug validation"

Just my opinion, but I believe that my reply #371 is suffice in answering your reply #370.

IMO, here's your dilemma:

If you say "no, legal does not equal validation", then you have contradicted your whole point.

If you answer "yes, legal does equal validation", then you have to say that society also validates tobacco addiction, compulsive gambling in Las Vegas, drinking yourself to intoxication at home, sloth, lying to your family, etc.

If you want those things to be legal, then you are validating them, according to your "legal=validation" position.

That's why you won't answer the question, IMO.

At least now we get the full story. He was NOT a first time offender? The first time was when he was sentenced to probation, the second when he violated his probation?

The sentence was served for the conviction which the probation applied toward. Moreover, note that whatever Clintonian parsing you apply, he went to jail for "smoking pot" and nothing further..

The fact of the matter is, that it happens - first-time nonviolent minor offenders can end up in jail..

If he is dumb enough to partake of illegal drugs during his supervised probation ....
