I see lots of publications here.

When scientists talk about publications, we always mean in peer-reviewed journals. A book is not peer-reviewed, and doesn't count.

Basically, we're looking for rigorous argument, sources, data, etc. Anyone can write a book, they just need the money to get it published.

So in other words, peer-pressure wouldn't have anything to do with it now, would it?

Talk about a joke.
