More than 100 men and women gathered in famously liberal San Francisco this weekend for what organizers said was the city's second annual public "Masturbate-a-Thon."

Organizers said they have taken the event "from the sheets to the streets," offering volunteers

Oh, it goes right to the very heart of the issue. I don't believe there is such a creature as a homosexual. I do believe there is such an act as sodomy. There's a world of difference. Do you dispute this?

But like I said, why have a law if you're not going to enforce it. If a person knows that an act of sodomy will be occurring on Saturday night at 9 PM at his neighbor's house and wants to tell the police so they can stop it, don't the police have the obligation to surveil and arrest the suspects? You're wanting laws just for appearances. What's the point?

Here I agree with you. Although the laws are intended to only be enforced against public or wantonly indiscreet behavior, that's not how they're written. The Texas sodomy case muddies the waters on such things since, independent of a 'right of privacy' defence, there should also be a laches defence. BTW, does anyone know what the legal status of the case is--whether the Court's decision was upholding a conviction or an indictment? If the latter, I would think a laches defense might be a viable strategy if it's not been tried yet.

I read it. I just didn't read your peculiar obsession into it. You did that all by yourself, Beavis--or is it Butthead?

I think Kevin is saying that he wants the law, but he knows it isn't enforced.

BTW there have been folks taped by the DA or police in their bedrooms and arrested for sex crimes. Last case I recall was in Florida. There have been threads here about it. One of the problems with the laws Kevin favors is that the cops can enforce it at their discretion even when it is regularly ignored. Not that any US agency would do such a thing.

I forget which article of the constitution contains the Mosaic law? Isn't that in the same book where you could sell the women folk in the family into slavery of kill them if they got out of line. Please, stop.

Actually, the imposition of a strong punishment for adultery was one of the things that made the principle of inheritance meaningful and possible. The existence of DNA testing makes adultery in some ways less severe of a crime than it used to be, though IMHO punishments for it should be more severe: someone who can be proven to have cheated on their spouse should be entitled to nothing from a divorce except to be glad to be out alive.

Let it be enforced as well as it can be enforced. That's the way it was for almost 200 years. The descent into the sewer that has transpired since has been a libertine's dream.

Wow, another circle jerk in San Francisco, or Frisco as the locals hate to have it called. Who'da thunk it?

Thanx for your historical perspective and your opinion on adulterers. So homos can go to jail but not adulterers?

Where is this happening in the US? Please substantiate this.

I don't know, Texas? Isn't that what the Santorum flap is about, two guys were busted in the bedroom?

"Let it be enforced as well as it can be enforced."

Talk about the slippery slope. It can be enforced in much more frequent and sophisticated ways than in the past. Law enforcement is truly amazing. Say between drugs and sex we can drop that ole unemployment rate.

There were some threads on the case in the last 10 days or so. Maybe a search? I recall the cops were in the house for another reason and caught the two doing a real nasty.
