Have you ever read "Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy?" Arthur Dent wakes up to find his house is about to be demolished due to eminent domain, so he lies down in front of it. The bulldozer operator doesn't realize it, but he's descended from the hoards, and as he tries to find a way around Arthur, they're all screaming with disgust in his head to run him over. It's a really funny series of books. Of course, a little later, the entire Earth is destroyed to make way for an interstellar bypass.
