Exactly right. I should give this phenomenon a name, The Reversal of the Burden of Proof.

Shift the burden of proof from the new idea or from the more elaborate explanation:

Assume your position to be right until proved wrong;
Assume the opposition to be wrong until proved right.

This is just one more of the unspoken assumptions put forth by our consistent friends.
