but the Declaration of Independence and again the basis of our justice system stems from a belief in God. Otherwise the only justice is force. What I forgot to mention in my previous post is that this sounds as if we should keep our mouths shut if we ever find out that a god does not exist (assuming arguendo that this is possible).

Exactly. -- It's pretty easy to make a good case for the non-existence of a god that cares about human rights or justice, -- just by listing examples of all the neverending injustices in the world. -- Force seems to be winning.
Now if we could just get the rest of the world to adopt & live by the principles of our non-sectarian constitution, maybe common sense could win for a change.
