Ever hear of Ragnorak?

No. On the other hand I have heard of Ragnarok, and yes the Vikings did have a belief that world as we know it was going to end.

Remember what's being discussed. I found the Bible to mesh remarkably well with what we know scientifically about the universe. Much better than what I had expected when I read it.

If the Bible had predicted that this world would last forever, and the Sun would never die, and matter would never devolve to disorder, that would be a pretty good strike against it.

Damned spell checker. It didn't have either spelling so I took a wild guess.

What about the claim that the sun once stood still in the sky for a significant period of time? Is that a historical fact?

I compiled (and tweaked slightly) a few of your observations into the following quote and would like to use it in private emails. Ok? If so and you'd like credit (other than "FReeper Tribune7"), please let me know your name by private reply. Thanks. I particularly like that last sentence...

>>"If the Bible was written by men, there would be all sorts of things on every page that made sense at the time but are now shown to be false...It's not meant to be a science book, but it is not anti-science and the natural observations in the book hold up remarkably well. Much better than Darwin's work which is only 150 years old...I found the Bible to mesh remarkably well with what we know scientifically about the universe...If the Bible had predicted that this world would last forever, and the Sun would never die, and matter would never devolve to disorder, that would be a pretty good strike against it."<<
