In the heady times after the Gulf War ( before we realized how much we screwed up ) he was very popular. That popularity stuck wisely because he distenced himself from politics at the time and therefore wrongly didn't become tained with the air of defeat. Powell is consistently wrong. The democrats have been trying to drive a wedge into the administration since they took control.This is poitics in the raw form. In my opinion, the Adminisration is doing a excellent job on all counts.
It is the Congress that makes law and policy regarding immigration. The Justice Dept., Border Patrol and others enforce those laws. The Dept. of State tries to smooth ruffled feathers and tries to avoid probable conflicts, using the people it has and the policies of the administration.
I do not understand, just what it is that you expect from Powell?
He has done everything the president has asked him to do, and he serves at his pleasure.
If the definition of secretary of state is pussy then powell is the right man for the job.
If what he says and does is what the president wants him to say and do then Bush is a pussy too.
He was against killing Sadam the first time around and spoke vocally about how that was the right choice. He is one of the fools that still says that that was a right decision.
He was against using the numbers of US ground troops that were necissary to get the job done in Afgamistan. We let 90% of the enemy go ( including Bin Laden ) as a result. Have you heard him say that that was a mistake ? That was a huge screw up , even worse than leaving Sadam in power.
He is against killing Bin Laden now. He is the only one in the administartion that I've heard express such a short sighted opinion.
He's a consumate politician that is consitently wrong and can't learn from his mistakes.
