>>I think drug use is immoral.<<

I think you have posted some very wise words here tonite, and I generally agree with you, but I fancy myself a Christian and a Libertarian and have come across this common belief that drug use is immoral. I have studied the issue for many years and I have not been able to find any basis in Christian thought for the idea that drug use is immoral. Do you base your morality on some other standard? What is it about drug use that makes it immoral?

I also fancy myslef a Christian libertarian. I believe that Cristianity teaches us to be filled with the spirit, and that we should set our sights and our hearts upon God. This even applies to marraige - though we unite with another, the idea is to have a stronger bond to God.

Drug use is another idol that we use to fill the void that God should be occupying. I think it is very telling that much drug use goes out of control - if it controls you, God is not leading your life and it is viewed as a separation from Him (i.e. sin).

This is pretty abstract and could apply to a large number of things. Drug use is not the "you're going straight to hell" behavior that supposed godly hard-liners make it out to be. I do, however, believe it to be immoral, along with a whole host of other common behaviors.

The idea here is not that I am holier that thou. Indeed, I do things which I believe to be immoral. However, this will not lead me to rationalize, compartmentalize and justify what I do.
