"A departure from principle in one instance becomes a precedent for a second; that second for a third; and so on, till the bulk of the society is reduced to be mere automatons of misery, to have no sensibilities left but for sin and suffering." --Thomas Jefferson to Samuel Kercheval, 1816. ME 15:40
Hmmm...so this is how the Republicans became Democrats.

Thanks I'll say that whenever some Central Valley RINO tells me I should vote for Dick Montieth.

James Madison: "There never was a government without force. What is the meaning of government? An institution to make people do their duty. A government leaving it to a man to do his duty or not, as he pleases, would be a new species of government, or rather no government at all. "

Here's a couple of good sentences on the subject, from our leader:
Free Republic is a place for people to discuss our common goals regarding the restoration of our constitutionally limited republican form of government. If people have other agendas for FR, I really wish they would take them elsewhere.
Thanks, Jim

"Learn to respect our Constitution, as do we."It's a simple thing really...yet so many here on this Forum are so afraid of it.
Sad.....what so many have died protecting...they throw away so easily.

Thus, as I see it, the best course of action to right these wrongs is to continue removing the liberals, socialists and leftists from our government as fast as we can. Eliminating the liberal influence automatically raises the level of conservatism in our government and its institutions.
We eliminate them by replacing them with non Democrats. This means, for the most part, supporting and voting for the Republican candidate in each race whether it be federal, state or local.
The Libertarians, Reformers, and other third parties know they cannot win national races. They do a great job writing, debating, and fighting for our constitutional rights, but they are not effective enough to win races. God bless them, they do not have and never will have the numbers necessary to win.

As other articles note, contempt for irrational laws and more conservative youth are on the upswing. Seems to me those bode well for a stronger Libertarian party. Whether that means a future second party or not, we shall see. Just because things have always been thus does not mean they will remain so.
But all things come to those who wait.
I find it fascinating that there is such an outpouring of contempt for Libertarians on FreeRepublic (witness the next article). I'm not sure why. I feel like a Republican at Paul Wellstone's funeral on here sometimes.

Please point out anywhere on this site, where any Republican has stated that "Principles don't mean anything."
If you cannot, then perhaps you can ask the Mods to remove your pointless accusation and the thread it rode in on.

Here's a quote for you to keep in mind as you vote your principles: "The road to Hell is paved with good intentions."

Thanks for the ping. Sorry that our statists-in-residence won't understand it.
I am not surprised to note that they want everybody to vote for THEIR guys, though. Piss on us all year, yet DEMAND we vote for a Pubbie, ANY Pubbie, come November. Amazing Chutzpah... kinda like the kid who killed both his parents then asked the judge for mercy on account of the fact he was an orphan...

I won't do your homework for ya......
..but ANYTIME someone mentions that they can't vote for a Republican Candidate (for whatever office) due to their beliefs...they keep getting told that they need to vote Republican...in order for the 'other guy' not to win.
Sure sounds like 'principles be damned' to me.
Maybe you need to take that old CTR ring out of the drawer and remember what it means.

Doesn't the Bible also say something to the effect that evil will only reign when good men stand by and do nothing?
To: redrock
I won't do your homework for ya...... Somehow, I figured your response would be something along those lines.
Sure sounds like 'principles be damned' to me.
"Principles" aren't all created equal.
For example, your fight for the "principle" of free drugs is not one that I share, nor can I imagine it being something for which the heroes of the American Revolution would have fought.
Now, if you want to talk about REAL principles, like those embodied in the Holy Bible--for which the heroes of the American Revolution DID fight--we might have a positive conversation.

So, you two are ready to write off the country? You have no faith in the Republic? I'm going to work within the System for change, before I throw up my hands and give up. Don't fault me for believing in my country.
With what country do you plan to align yourselves?
To: redrock
Oh, and "CTR" stands for CHOOSE THE RIGHT.
Again, it doesn't mean "Choose whatever feels groovy to you, man." It stands for absolute values, not "to each his own."
See my earlier reply.
