I received this email from Mrs. JJ last evening. Thought you'd all like to see it. Hurry back, John, we miss you!

Dear Family, Friends, and Freepers,
Dad/John/JJ had his angiogram, followed immediately by an angioplasty this morning. It went very well. The doctor said that his three existing stents from 1999 are in good shape - the arteries remain open and unobstructed. Today, Dr. Barnett added a fourth stent in another artery that had reduced capacity. We're all glad that the test and the procedure were accomplished piggy-back, and that he didn't have to go through it all two days in a row, like last time.

When I left the hospital he was doing really well in progressive care {less than ICU, but much more monitoring and nursing care than being in a standard room}. He was asleep, and I remembered from the last time that sleep is the best state for him. Otherwise he fusses and moves around too much, when he really has to lie quite still for hours. He'll spend the night in progressive care as they 'finish the job' and his body chemistry returns to normal. Early tomorrow, he should be transferred to a standard care room, and will likely be discharged later in the day.

There was no place for me to sit with him in his room, and I couldn't do anything anyway; so since I only slept two hours last night and had to drive over an hour, I decided to beat the traffic and come back home. I'm in touch with his nurse via phone as needed. And before I left, I delivered the car magazine that he requested, along with enough chocolate candy to meet both his and the nurses' RDA for the duration.

They really do seem to be on top of things there, and I know that it's often easier to have family out of the way. I met a lady there who is an RN and she had the same procedure this morning. She came here from Arkansas, bypassing the bigger more prestigious hospitals, to have hers done at the same one where he is. Her professional friends recommended it because of its excellent reputation for excellent care.

I'm guardedly optimistic that he'll feel even better than he has lately, and most of all that he'll give some more thought to his smoking. Who knows, every now and then - he talks about quitting for good? Maybe he'll get to it sooner than later.
Love, Mom/Sandy/Mrs. JJ
