in the late 19th century, as you can easily verify...

But not so easy that you would provide us with any sort of documentation, eh?

I'm so tired of hearing of this type of bunk. Sell your anti-American tripe on some other server.

Any one with some familiarity with cultural history of the 19th century would be familiar with the fact I quoted. To dismiss the quoting of an alleged fact which you happen not to be familiar with as "anti-Americanism" is to display less than the height of intelligence, to say the least.

"In 1868 American gynocological surgeons began performing clitorectomies to quell sexual desire in women, which was considered a form of derangement. Upper- and middle-class white women who had been taught that any sexual urges were sinful, willingly surrendered their bodies to these male doctors, who tested them for abnormal arousal by stimulating the breast and the clitoris; if there was a response, they surgically removed the clitoris."

Barbara Goldsmith

I found this reference and quote in another source and have not read the book itself. The book is a biography of a feminist and suffragette named Victoria Woodhull.
