When I was in college, I had a girlfriend who was extremely liberal. One day, I asked her what she thought of forced female circumcision in Africa. Since she considered herself a feminist, but also a multiculturalist, I really had no idea how she'd respond to the question. At the end of the day, though, her multiculturalism won out: She said, "Who are WE to judge somebody else's culture?"
I wonder what her answer would have been if you had responded "Do you feel the same way about apartheid in South Africa?"
