American boomers support raising taxes on younger workers to maintain current Social Security payouts, poll shows — and the view is overwhelming

Social Security’s trust fund is now expected to run out of reserves earlier than projected last year, according to the latest report from the program’s board of trustees.

The 2026 Board of Trustees Report projects the depletion date for the Old-Age and Survivors Insurance (OASI) Trust Fund to come in the fourth quarter of 2032, three months earlier than estimated in the 2025 report (1). Once those reserves are gone, ongoing revenue would cover just 78% of scheduled benefits.

That accelerated depletion date is putting even more pressure on lawmakers to find a fix before benefits take a hit. But one potential fix has particularly strong support among older Americans: raising taxes on younger Americans.

In fact, an overwhelming 89% of Americans over the age of 65 said Social Security benefits should be protected at current levels, even if it means higher taxes on younger workers, according to a 2025 survey by the Cato Institute (2).

I propose increase the taxes on each and every congress critter that voted to use the income tax fund which was “in a lockbox” - rather than all of us who were lied to by the marshmallow major low IQ, and lot T critters who screwed things up.

Oh, and tax their families and descendants also, because those lying, stealing turds of both parties deserve taxing...and perhaps something a bit more painful if that doesn’t work.

Social security as a concept sounds good until you realize that the boomers receiving the money have a net worth of ~50 times the younger generations of people paying the money.

Picture a millennial or zoomer renting an apartment paying money out of their meager paycheck each each month to a boomer living in a million dollar house and you see the insanity that is social security. https://t.co/xR4gOsIiTX— Aristotle 🏛️ (@Aristotle7777) October 5, 2026

What kind of a dumbass poll is this?

Social security was a really dumb pyramid plan to begin with, and that’s not taking into account that artificial birth control entered the came AND that peopel thought that despising family and neglecting, rejecting and killing babies even within marriage, was not only acceptable (it isn’t), but optimal

Boomers may support that but everybody else will vote against it overwhelmingly. The Baby Boom generation is currently 64 to 67 million. Gen X is 65 million. The millenials are 73 to 74 million. Gen Z is 71 million. Actuarial tables show that about 1/3rd of the existing Baby Boom generation will be gone in 10 years.

They simply don’t have the votes to push that through.

I keep wondering why Boomers have an image problem. They seem so kind in person . . .

they gave themselves whites only bathrooms when they were young, and handicapped parking spots at the front of every store when they were middle aged and now demand a cash pay day in old age.

Being part of the biggest group of voters has its perks.

More propaganda intended to stir up hate of old people by young people who are still of a mindset that they will never get old themselves.

Barefoot boy with cheeks of tan,
One day you’ll be a barefoot man.
Your elders are out on a spree,
Squandering your posterity.

George W. Bush was originally supposed to institute partial privatization of social security, so that those paying into the system could set aside a small portion of their payment for personal investment. Instead, we got 9/11 and the War on Terror. But partial privatization is still a good idea.

The initial payments into Social Security were 1%. Now they are 15.3% and projected to again rise.

A Ponzi scheme always needs new money to prevent it collapsing.

But, for some reason, I will have to live to be over 100 to receive back everything that was paid in on my behalf 1959 to 2025.... and that is without any interest on the money ... and that is besides 2026 benefits being much larger than in earlier years that I kicked in.

But it's not a ponzi scheme.

I have been hearing that social security will go broke since the 1990’s. I got on it early as a just in case. I will never get back what I paid into it, but I figured I will get some of it.

Payback is coming.
At some point the baby boomers will not be able screw over the young and the young may want to fix things at their expense instead.

I really wouldn’t want to be one of these baby boomers with this mindset come judgement.

Younger workers should just say NO.

Social Security was a Ponzi scheme from Day One. American voters have been voting for the liars, voting against the truth tellers, and kicking the can down the road as long as any of us have been alive.

I wish there were a way to sort out the honest boomers who have voted for the truth tellers along the way, but there’s no way to do that.

At some point, we have to just let the chips fall where they may. There is absolutely no reason that younger voters should tax themselves even more to prop up a stupid lie.

Don’t give me the Sacred Intergenerational Compact barnyard fertilizer. The democrats think they can ride the Social Security and Medicare cancers to outright socialism. That’s on autopilot unless we just say no.

I dont understand how an entire generation is as selfish as the boomers seem to be.
