You’re right. But Springsteen’s Born in the USA is about the suffering of Vietnam Veterans and not about patriotism. The songs are about the struggles of life.

I have no use for songs like "Born in the USA' and "American Woman" by the Guess Who, which are anti-American rants. I much prefer songs that are bullish on America such as Back in the USA, The Fiery Bear and Yankee Rose.

Coming from a home where my father regularly beat my mother, (we are talking black eyes, broken bleeding noses, pulled out hair) this song has meaning for me. I wish my mother would have stood up for herself.
