JPMorgan just opened their $3 billion state-of-the art headquarters in New York - but some have slammed the global company for its ominous office design.
The colossal tower will serve 10,000 employees at America's largest bank, and as per a press release, was designed with a focus on sustainability and wellbeing.
It even boasts some outdoor space - but critics have deemed it 'dystopian' in design.
Some people took issue with the trading floor of the new building after Dell Technologies Chairman and CEO, Michael Dell, shared a snap of the area and posted it to X, formerly known as Twitter.
'Congratulations @jpmorgan on the opening of your new headquarters!' Dell wrote, sharing a picture of the rows and rows of monitors positioned closely together.
People flocked to the replies to share their thoughts on the new space, with some comparing it to something from a 'horror movie.'
'This looks like a dystopian future they warned us against,' one person wrote.
The JPMorganChase Chairman and CEO Jamie Dimon spoke of the company's significance in New York City amidst the new headquarters.
'The opening of our new global headquarters is not only a significant investment in New York but also a testament to our commitment to our clients and employees worldwide,' he said at the opening ceremony.
He continued stating that by creating 'world-class environments' where employees can thrive, the bank is 'strengthening our ability to serve our clients and communities – locally and globally – for generations to come.'

If you weren’t mentally ill before you worked in that setting, you certainly would be in short order.
Photos of it look good to me.
“The new headquarters was designed with a focus on sustainability and wellbeing”.
It was? By who?
Amen!
The Houston control center from moon landing was much more inviting for the team….sorry I can’t remember how to post images…

Certainly seems warm and inviting, in an IngSoc Orwellian way. All that seems to be missing is the large viewscreen you can’t turn off.
Just in time for J. P. Morgan to be taxed into oblivion by the incoming Mayor (either Mamdani or Cuomo). The new digs will provide office space for 10,000 people. How long before J. P. Morgan is renting out space at a discount because nearly every one of its employees are “working” from home (not living in NYC)?
No worries. Mayor Mamdani will eventually seize the building, and use it as a homeless shelter.
Or maybe use it as a city-run grocery story.
But the building is quite large. So why not both?
Onward the Revolution! (I guess.)
✊
You should see it in action, I was contracted to Bank of American for a number of years doing Voice over IP installations, one of them was in the BofA tower in Manhattan, it looked just like the trading floor in this article.
Each trader had a tower computer with 4 monitors, with a specialized phone in front of the monitors that was huge, imagine sitting that close to all those people in the high stress world of traders on Wall Street, day after day, it would drive me crazy and I’m sure a lot of the traders that will be manning those workstations experience long term difficulties unless they ignore all the distractions and let it go at the end of the day.
It will probably calm down in the future when AI fully kicks in and does all the trading without the need for so many people.
It’s still better than the way it used to be.
The inverted pyramids at the base? Reminded me of this one, didn’t mention it earlier because I didn’t know the name and had to track down a pic. Rochester NY. There are three bank buildings downtown that are, uh, probably an acquired taste.

the tallest bldgs, Rochester:

That puts ant farms to shame.
I worked at a Government Revenue facility (cough)
during the Ronald Reagan administration. 😜
I walked out on the main floor. There were 500
Computer 🖥️ Terminals (old style). All laid out
on separate desks side-by-side in multiple rows.
Metal keyboards ⌨️ too. It was quite a sight to see.
And yes, there was a picture 🖼️ of
President Ronald Reagan on the wall
“This isn’t an office it’s an insane asylum” Hotlips Houlihan might of said.
And if this concept fails, expect the facility to be where your next call comes from asking if the warranty on your car needs replacing.
Finally, it does look like the kind of place that would generate a "New York state of mind". Perfect for people who are seriously trying to decide if they would rather vote for Cuomo or Mamdani.
Those are some pretty high tables.
