I lived in Boca Raton for years, and at one point, about 10-12 years ago, a girl who was graduating from high school was treated to a pair of breast implants as a graduation gift from her parents. The surgery was performed at a regional operating amphitheater facility, a type of facility that has become quite common. The plastic surgeon never got to start the surgery, because the girl had an unusual reaction at the start of anesthesia. Something that happens about once in every 25,000 patients: there is an antidote, a treatment that can be injected quickly when this condition appears. The surgical center had the material on hand. But it had exceeded its shelf life and was no longer effective.
Of course, the parents sued everybody and their brother. The resulting settlement was confidential. Someone should have sued the parents for ever thinking of giving that to their daughter as a "gift".
