Anti-inflammatory drugs taken by millions of pregnant women around the world may raise the risk of autism in their babies.
A study looked at the impact on children who are exposed to glucocorticoids - a class of steroids - in the womb.
Those prenatally exposed to the drugs were between 30 and 50 percent more likely to be diagnosed with autism compared to children whose mothers did not take them.
The study also linked glucocorticoids - which include prednisone and cortisone - to a higher risk of intellectual disabilities, Attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and anxiety.
Glucocorticoids mimic the hormone cortisol, which is produced by the adrenal gland and known for its anti-inflammatory effect.
They are prescribed to pregnant women at risk of preterm births because they also help with the fetus's organ development and maturation.
The drugs are also given to pregnant women suffering from autoimmune or inflammatory disorders such as rheumatoid arthritis, lupus, and asthma because they dampen down the immune response.
However, the new study suggests if babies are exposed to excess amounts of glucocorticoids it can alter their brain development in a negative way.
It is estimated two to three percent of the population are currently prescribed glucocorticoids.
And in the US, the most common glucocorticoid drugs are prednisone, triamcinolone acetonide, and methylprednisolone.

Anything, but ‘the thing’.
I’m blaming it on pampers... Autism and colon cancer in young adults. You can’t make diapers out of chemicals and then expect nothing to happen.
More BS from the pharmaceutical co’s. vax’s are the problem.
There’s this. Oh and out of control vaccines an hour after they’re born. The absolutely needless prenatal ultrasounds bombarding kids with ridiculous amounts of energy completely in researched, plastics out the yin yang, microwaved plastics, plastics in carpeting, clothes, bedding
I believe that yes, in part, drugs may be a factor in autism. Meth, coke, fentanyl, pot etc. The drugs affect the fetus, but also the care given by the parents.
They will think of anything to pivot away from vaccines.
I thought I had read on here, multiple times, that autism isn’t increasing (it’s just more loudly diagnosed), and it is purely genetic (so not ever from drug or vaccine or environment exposures.
So how can exposure to these drugs cause it? Are they turning on a
recessive gene?
“A study”... “the new study”... not mentioning who did it, who paid for it, how it was performed... OF COURSE we should trust this “journalist”!!!
“if babies are exposed to excess amounts of glucocorticoids it can alter their brain development in a negative way.”
Why don’t these things ever alter brains in a positive way once in a while, just as a fluke?
They mean vaccines being injected into newborns whose immune systems haven’t even had the chance to function yet.
these drug company execs need to be put on trial for the death and destruction caused by their drugs!
Antenatal glucocorticoids and the developing brain: mechanisms of action
Note this bit...
...Once such windows have been identified it will be possible to target prenatal treatments, so as to maximize benefit and reduce risk of long-term effects. Notwithstanding, the data reviewed below indicate that caution should be exercised in the use of multiple course glucocorticoid therapy during pregnancy...
And Big Med and Big Pharma have just realized there's a problem...?
SNORT.
“these drug company execs need to be put on trial for the death and destruction caused by their drugs!”
Did you also celebrate the shooting death of the CEO?
This is really about RJK, Jr. and MAHA, isn’t it.
And CoupFlu.
It’s imperative to recognize the limitations of our research, given that it relies on animal models. Caution should be exercised in generalizing these results to humans.
These drugs are given to pregnant women in high risk pregnancies.
Because of them, more babies survive.
The study says, maybe twice as many show signs of autism.
So, how many survive who would not have otherwise? If it is a choice of some autism versus death, it seems a worthwhile risk.
Or, mothers in inflammatory states may be more likely to have children with autism.
Mental illnesses, of which autism is a precocious sibling, seem linked to inflammation.
