Your #2 is inaccurate.
In the event that one of the named candidates is not around to be elected, the state recognize the party affiliation. So, you would be voting for the party nominee, not the ineligible candidate.

This is not accurate per an OH Board of Elections official.
Maybe that’s the case in VT, but not in OH.
