"One can be sympathetic to individual Palestinians while having no use whatsoever for Hamas."

Unless there is further distinctions, that can be construed as claiming that one can be sympathetic to individual supporters of Hamas while having no use whatsoever for Hamas.

Of course. But I have known two people whose parents had been in the area and lost their land. One is married to a conservative former state senator who ran for Congress and almost one in a liberal bastion. The other was a brilliant linguist with a philosophy PhD from Princeton when that was not a bad thing, became a priest and helped run the FSSP traditional Catholic seminary in Nebraska before he died.

Neither would have any use for Hamas' actions, even if they are not keen on Jewish ownership of the lands.
