The world was always mad, and it is actually better than it was historically. Remember most of the Apostles were murdered horribly.
What you are really sad for is the loss that Christians had of power for a short period of history. But I would argue that it was never natural for Christians to hold power in this world. We are called to reject this world, and be set apart.
