How to end this insane war is simple.
1. A ceasefire by both sides followed by free and fair elections of each province.
2. Have elections in each province of The Ukraine, supervised by outside neutral parties. Let the provinces go to Russia or the Ukraine as they choose.
3. If Putin will not agree to this, inform him that military aid to Ukraine will be without limits with the exceptions of nuclear weapons. If Putin goes nuke we go nuke and it is all over for both.
4. If Zelensky will not agree, inform him that all military and financial aid will stop immediately. Russia would soon control the totality of the Ukraine.
The above 4 points would stop our insane march to a thermonuclear conflict with only one winner. The winner would be China unscathed, and the West and Russia left in ruins. It is really pretty simple. As simple as a school yard bully that meets his match. It is no different.
What price will the West pay for provoking and prolonging this conflict?

Ukrainian forces can't even stop Russia from extending further into Ukraine despite us spending hundreds of billions helping them so far. That gravy train will stop long before Russia is evicted from Crimea. The only real question left seems to be what happens to Kiev.

Crimea is as much a part of Russia as is Moscow. Ukraine would have to defeat Russia and have an unconditional surrender.
