But what about grumpy female professors who don’t like the idea of pretty girls trading on their looks? Black women who don’t like white girls? Or homosexual professors?
The professoriate is such a mixed, “diverse” lot of left wingers that I don’t know if there is a specific pretty girl boost. Good-looking people tend be rated higher in general, earn more, but there are always exceptions, pockets of hostility.
But blind grading is an excellent idea! No lookism, racism, ageism, sexism, classism, genderism, nativism, nothing but the pure life of the mind! All classes must be held online.
But what do we do about Harrison Bergeron?
“But what about grumpy female professors who don’t like the idea of pretty girls trading on their looks? Black women who don’t like white girls? Or homosexual professors?”
Those are certainly factors, but they are individual biases, where this is a universal bias. For example, even heterosexual men tend to treat attractive men better than unattractive men. It’s not because they are sexually interested in them, it’s just an unconscious bias at work. If you are looking at statistics in the aggregate, the universal bias is going to have a lot more impact.
