Oh, double flaming horsehocky! That damn movie was the ultimate expression of the mythological "Vietnam Vet Goes Nuts" theme pushed by Hollywood during and after our war. It was and is complete crap - and insulting to boot.
The special effects were hokey, the characters cartoonish, and none of us, anywhere ever imploded like that.
It's capped off by starring Sylvester "I hid out teaching in a girl's school in Switzerland" Stallone.
Complete voyeuristic, comic book crap.
Says you and not most people.
Have a good day.
Stallone did indeed hide out in Switzerland during the war, teaching Skiing at that girl’s school, I believe.
Brian Dennehy
The award-winning actor has raised red flags numerous times during his career for falsely claiming he served in Vietnam. While Dennehy was a Marine for four years, he was never in combat during the Vietnam War, a fallacy he admitted in 1998.
“I lied about serving in Vietnam and I’m sorry,” Dennehy is quoted as having said. Writer B.G. Burkett, who made a career of unmasking phony military service claims, outed Dennehy in his book “Stolen Valor.”
My buddy was lifelong SF. Came in right as Vietnam ended and didn’t get sent. He says exactly what you did about the movie and Stallone.
