It was Rambo-mania in the town of Hope, British Columbia, as stars from the film, their family members and fans gathered to celebrate the 40th anniversary of one of the most iconic action movies of all time last weekend.
The district of Hope, a town with a population of less than 7,000 situated amid the Cascade Mountains around two hours east of Vancouver, doubled as the fictional town of Hope in Washington State for the 1982 movie.
Filming of the Sylvester Stallone classic began all the way back in November 1981 and lasted until the following April.
The movie spawned four sequels, the most recent of which, Rambo: Last Blood, was released in 2019, to mediocre reviews.
One of the organizers of the event, Brian McKinney, told DailyMail.com: 'The First Blood concept really has evolved into this cult like thing. Apparently, there are close to a billion fans of the 'Rambo' franchise.'
The festival ran from October 7th until 10th. Among those who visited were Patrick Stack, who played Lt. Clinton Morgan, Stephen Chang who played the Viet Cong commander who causes much of Rambo's trauma, as well as the family of Brian Dennehy, who played the notorious Sheriff Will Teasle.
During the celebrations, a statue of Dennehy in character as Sheriff Teasle was unveiled
In total, around 3,000 people showed up for the anniversary celebrations.

Here’s a good piece about Dennehy’s history of lying about serving in Vietnam.

It’s a shame. The man was a genuine Marine, and a fine actor, but he continually lied about having served in Vietnam. Even after he was busted for it in the late ‘90s, and apologized, he started lying about again a number of years later. Crazy.
Is he buddies with Dick Blumenthal?...
An aside, Blumenthal has been involved with government pretty much his entire life.
Congressmen pay is $174,000 per year in 2022.
How is this man worth $100 million?
Anyone...Bueller?
Yes, same phony shtick as Blumenthal. Shameful that the voters of Connecticut elect such a dishonorable man.
Its a simple proof - the more Hollywood strays from Jungian archetypes, the more they will fail. They more they involve them, the more successful they will be.
Same here. I was camping with a friend in his back yard when I was maybe 13 years old, and he told me about "First Blood". It was a good read, and I was excited years later to get word that a movie was being made. (My friend, "Scrap Iron", went on to become a top brass US Marine working in the Pentagon.)
I also remember one day, while working in the family cotton fields, my cousin told me there was a movie coming out in which apes ruled the world, and humans were slaves.
Days long past, but well remembered.
After that his books become adult "Hardy Boys" cookie cutter classics.
You are just a puppy! ;-D
Agreed. Must be a lot of money in that pulp stuff for a writer of his caliber to go that route
The final movie will be “Dried Blood”.

Around 1976 or early 77 I read a paperback book called “Cross of Iron”, it was fantastic and I thought they have to make a movie of it but then I looked at the 1950s date of publication and realized there would be no movie, well it turns out they did have the movie coming out within months of my reading it, that was such a great stroke of luck for me and a great movie it was.
I have some grey hair. :)
I’m surprised. There wasn’t much left of that sleepy town after Rambo left... :-)
Yeah, the poor sporting goods store really took a beating.
“Company leader to identify Baker Team - Rambo, Messner, Ortega, Coletta, Jorgensen, Danforth, Berry, Krakauer confirm! This is Colonel Trautman. Talk to me, Johnny.”
Hollywood could never kill off a franchise in the first movie could they? Lol!
