The ER I work in has two charges on duty at all times.

I work as a porter in the ER of a community hospital in southern NJ that's part of the RWJ Barnabas Health System.

We are the largest ER in the state and there are always two charge nurses on duty as well as PCTs and techs from all other departments(x-ray, respiratory, etc.

I had to go through the same training when I worked in nursing homes and all I was was a mop jockey but the law in NJ requires everyone to attend training sessions on issues concerning the elderly.

We were never shown self defense techniques but I’ve had
extensive martial arts training when I was younger and know quite well how to parry fists, break choke holds and firmly take hold of a patients arm and restrain them from using it to assault me. I’ve only ever had to use it once or twice and I was a gentle as possible simply wanting to just induce the person from not hurting either myself or them.

Number 1 rule in any situation is never get too close to such a patient and when it comes to elderly people with dementia issues: Keep at least an arms length away, make sure you’re not alone in the room with the person and keep the door and your back to it.

Contrast that with what we have now — ratios of 7:1, no charge nurse, no techs — that is beyond undoable for any human being to cope with, much less a young, often inexperienced nurse fresh out of school (they long ago let go of all the older experienced nurses — too costly and got in the way of the head hauncho admins receiving their annual bonuses).

As a former ICU Rn, that is a recipe for disaster, medication accidents, neglect, very unsafe.

But guess who doesn’t care? The media, politicians who created the hyped fear. It is all part of the plan. Food shortage and civil unrest to follow. The Great Reset!

You got it. Just a money funnel to the elites — both corporate, political, and media. For whatever reason, I suppose they think they will have their own private hospital rooms and doctors/nurses to take care of them. That may or my not be the case someday.

Drugs and alcohol.

A patient arrives into the ER unable to breathe due to opioid OD. After receiving enough Narcan to reverse the effects, the patient bolts upright, yanks out his breathing tube while swinging punches wildly. The health care team ruined his high. Shame on us.
