Demographics are the key. The descendants of the Irish, Italian, Jewish, German, Greek, and other European immigrants from the 1840-1920 period are mostly gone from New York City, Staten Island partially excepted. Essentially, there are four major ethnic groups sharing NYC: American blacks, Hispanics, East Asians, and leftist and homosexual whites. Unlike Baltimore or Chicago, blacks are not a large enough group to become dominant. Neither are the white betas and Karens who dominate much of Manhattan and the gentrified areas of Brooklyn and Queens. I can foresee Asians and Hispanics allying against a black/white leftist coalition, if not in this election cycle, then in the near future.
