Opinion: The climate crisis can't be stopped, we must adapt
Deutsche Welle ^ | 07.16.2021 | David Ehl

The extent of destruction and death wrought by Germany's recent floods is slowly becoming apparent. Dozens of people have died, with many still reported missing. The disaster has devastated entire towns, washing away residential houses, cars and trees.

Natural disasters are nothing new. They occurred long before the advent of the industrial age, when humans began burning fossil fuels on a large scale.

Over time, however, atmospheric CO2 concentrations have doubled, raising Earth's temperature by 1 degree Celsius (1.8° Fahrenheit). A greater frequency and intensity of natural disasters has been the consequence.

As vast swaths of western Germany are dealing with one of the worst floods in years, parts of North America are grappling with scorching hot temperatures that have left scores dead and sparked forest fires that have proven very difficult to contain. The Northern Hemisphere, in short, is facing a climate crisis. […]

Germany's Federal Statistical Office recorded an 11% increase in deaths during a weeklong heat wave this summer. It is almost unimaginable what would happen if temperatures were to rise to 46, 47 or even 49 degrees Celsius (120 degrees Fahrenheit), as they have done this summer in the Canadian town of Lytton. Lytton, incidentally, lies near 50 degrees north latitude, just like the German towns of Boppard and Coburg, in central Germany.

This means we should be taking safety precautions. Reconfiguring our cities could help, for instance by ensuring air can properly circulate in urban conglomerations. Preserving or cultivating green spaces can help lower temperatures. Concrete structures and asphalt surfaces, after all, lock in the heat. …

Where’s Greta? I haven’t heard anything from her in the longest time.

She gave Trump the evil eye at the UN, and was Time magazine’s person of the year, but hasn’t been making pronouncements much , that I have heard anyway.

There is not, and never has been any “climate crisis” since the earth cooled enough to start HAVING climate.

There are epic, and sometimes highly disastrous WEATHER incidents, that have impacted a very small locality on the vastness of the earth’s total surface at any given time, but a worldwide, simultaneous extinction event of most of the creatures on the face of the planet is a rare thing indeed, and only happens at relatively long periods between intervals, like a massive meteor or asteroid strike.

There have been gradual shifts in climate, from quite warm (but still within the range of adaptability of most species) to almost completely frigid, except for a few warm zones near the equatorial divide of the rotating planet. Some form of life has always sustained.

Whatever comes, adapt we shall. So kwitcherbitchen.

You may not care about Germany, but Germany (still, incredibly) cares about you.

Once all the Germans were warlike and mean,
But that couldn't happen again.
We taught them a lesson in 1918
And they've hardly bothered us since then.

The allies raised the temps in Dresden by well over 1 deg C in the mid-forties, and they, eventually, got over that.

“... raising Earth’s temperature by 1 degree Celsius (1.8° Fahrenheit).”

This is an overt lie. There are no data that can prove this.

It’s important not to argue about CO2. CO2 can be accurately measured. It’s increased from a tiny percentage to a slightly greater tiny percentage. Nothing proves CO2 will increase the temperature, and especially tiny traces of CO2.

But don’t argue this, focus on the fact they cannot even accurately measure what they claim - a 1.8°F increase in temperature over decades - i.e. Global warming.

The fact is global warming has not been established, and really can’t be.

Full stop. Deny their premise, don’t argue.

It’s actually ludicrous to claim a 1.8° F increase in “average” “global” temperature over decades.

“A greater frequency and intensity of natural disasters has been the consequence.”

Another lie.

Don’t accept their overt lies. If we accept their premises based on overt lies, they won already.

Hi.

“The allies raised the temps in Dresden by well over 1 deg C in the mid-forties, and they, eventually, got over that.”

So did Hiroshima and Nagasaki.

On top of all that, the IPCC still omits water vapor from their calculations. They’re creating “data” for a fictitious atmosphere that doesn’t exist on Earth and never will.

I will submit there is no evidence of man-made global warming because no adherent to the popular mythology will acknowledge the existence of the sun. I have yet to find any article which attempts to measure the influence of the sun and then ascribes an increment to human activity. It was only since the late 70’s that it was possible to measure changes in the sun’s radiance independent of earth.

Even before that time any true scientist would have said data collected was invalid because people had known for centuries the sun was a variable star and it was not possible to separate influences for any mathematical computations. Now that it is possible to separate the influence of the sun the analysis of such a complicated interaction is very likely not possible. Therefore, political rhetoric must be substituted for application of the scientific method.

The worst thing about the Climate Change hoax is not that it’s unscientific. The worst thing is that billions of dollars will be diverted from useful projects to fight it.

Money that could be used to build hospitals, feed families, etc. will be used instead to “fix” something that wasn’t broken in the first place.

Heh. “Moron” is the term for someone with a mental age of between ages 3 and 6. Kids of that age have more sense than Ehl.

Yes; he makes a BS claim that atmospheric concentrations went from 200 ppm to 400 ppm.
