Bruce Lee’s daughter has spoken up to say she finds Quentin Tarantino’s take on her father exhausting.
“I’m really xxxx tired of white men in Hollywood trying to tell me who Bruce Lee was,” Shannon Lee wrote in a Hollywood Reporter guest column response to the director’s comments about her dad made on Joe Rogan’s Spotify podcast.

“I’m tired of hearing from white men in Hollywood that he was arrogant and an xxxx when they have no idea and cannot fathom what it might have taken to get work in 1960s and ’70s Hollywood as a Chinese man with (God forbid) an accent, or to try to express an opinion on a set as a perceived foreigner and person of color. I’m tired of white men in Hollywood mistaking his confidence, passion and skill for hubris and therefore finding it necessary to marginalize him and his contributions. I’m tired of white men in Hollywood finding it too challenging to believe that Bruce Lee might have really been good at what he did and maybe even knew how to do it better than them.”

Bruce would be ashamed of her trying to make him into a victim. Bruce was arrogant. He never suffered fools or sucked up.
I am tired of people trying to use race to deflect when a criticism obviously hit its mark. It’s like those Twittertards always talking about Kamala Harris being picked on because “she’s brown and has a vagina,” i.e., they want those two things to be a shield from anyone mentioning what an idiot she’s been thus far as Vice President.
She does know that her father was American, right? He wasn’t born in China.
Yes! And Bruce himself was not focused on ‘race’ - he believed we were all born under one star as the ‘human race’ - he also taught many people of all backgrounds even though it outraged Chinese Kung fu masters. I admired his skill and his greatness… never considered his ‘race’ … he was just the best martial artist I’d ever seen.
Truthfully, they can both be absolutely correct. It is very likely that it took a great deal of arrogance and attitude for a Chinese Martial Artist to break through in Hollywood in the 60’s and ‘70s.
And, it can also be true that level of arrogance and attitude rubbed many wrong.
Example: the TV show Kung Fu was originally written for Bruce Lee. But, Hollywood Suits told the writer and producer that the American audience would never accept a small Chinese man with Bruce Lee’s accent as the main character in any TV show. So, while they loved the concept they demanded an American actor become the main character.
Bruce Lee was not happy about that decision at all. He never forgot that.
So, as I said, it is very possible for both perspectives to be valid in this particular case.
Seriously??? Who is SHE? I don’t care. He worked. He was good at what he did. I enjoyed many of his movies. Beyond that, I D.O.N.’T. C.A.R.E.
She is a racist, but come on. Casting Keith Carradine and giving him slant eyes rather than cast Bruce Lee in Kung Fu who came up with the idea? Thats white Hollywood for you.
If the white bigoted liberal racists directors only saw what every white little kid did (like me) with Bruce Lee when he played Kato in The Green Hornet (honestly he was only upstaged by the Black Beauty, so I was definately not racist) , he would have had at least 10 movies under his belt before dying. Sad really.
Her only mistake was not saying “liberal white men” because that’s who she is talking about and it’s true.
More tea and less rice might help
Did she call out any of the different Asian producers and directors who ripped off her dad’s name and legacy to launch hundreds of sketchy knockoff films to capitalize on his fame?

lol...He was ahead of his time!
White men in Hollywood bow to the Chinese Communists and censor their films to please that goverment. Just ask the white men at Disney.
If you are tired of white men don’t associate with us or take our MONEY!!!!!!
Sounds like racist talk to me. Where’s big media at to shame her?
She is talking about Hollywood and I agree with her. I’m sure she is well aware of the fact that most white middle class men idolized Bruce Lee.
In that era, the movie studios wanted to make money above all else. They weren’t about racial justice. They would make Mickey Rooney a Japanese, because he could draw an audience. Just like actors in the past curried favor with the heads of studios and literally begged for a role if they liked the script. In that movie with Mickey, I am willing to bet that the Director and the Producers had a personal relationship with him or his agent.
Sometimes people go with the people they know, especially if they are a big name, like someone from the Carradine family who were Hollywood royalty.
“racists liberal white men”
Didn’t Brad Pitt beat up a Chinese guy who looked like Bruce Lee in his last movie?
