PURPOSE Alert, fire protection equipment recall by the Edwards Fire Safety Company.

DESCRIPTION OF CIRCUMSTANCES Edwards Fire Safety Company recalled 85,000 series 281 heat detectors. From 1979 to 2018 they have been installed nationwide. The heat detectors may fail to activate in response to fire, this means they may fail to activate evacuation alarms, fire extinguishing system, or signal local fire departments.

TOPICS: Heated Discussion
KEYWORDS: detectors; edwards; fire; recall
Lets see now.

1 For near 40 years, we have put thousands of the 281s into approved life safety and property protective systems.

2. A couple of years back, Edwwards, (the maker) figures out the 281 series are not reliable. Edwards quietly ends production of the 281 series detectors.

3. More years pass, and NRC notices and announces; these detectors are not reliable, no specific action or written response required.

Rab can but wonder; are the 85000 “recalled” detectors are being removed / replaced?
