Others like jumping out of planes with parachutes. Occasionally a parachute will fail to open and SPLAT. But, could be said that person died doing what they love to do.
My "dangerous" habit is hiking solo in middle of winter. I'm talking 10+ miles. I'm pretty much the only one out there during those times. Should I slip and break my leg, I might never make it back to the trailhead and will freeze to death. I try to take care that this does not happen. But no guarantees.
I had a close call about 20 years ago when a snowstorm hit in the middle of my hike and I lost track of where I was. I eventually made it back to my car but that was a close call.
I’m glad you’ve survived doing what you enjoy, and I’m sad that this girl didn’t, just on general principles.
