Yes— and we’ll all be their (dem’s) huckle bearer.

Script note: the original script, not delivered by Val Kilmer as Doc Holliday was.... “I’m your huckle bearer— that’s JUST my game”.

A “huckle” is a handle on a casket— each huckle had a “bearer” later called a pallbearer. A “huckleberry” of the 1800’s would have meant “a friend”. So Kilmer got it wrong.

Kilmer said- and it was changed in the script— “I’m your huckleberry”... with the accent dropping the y sound to “uh” sort of sounded like a Georgia dentist gambler/gunman. Dang great portrayal of the tuberculosis infected Doc- who died of it “consuming” his lung tissues turning them to nothing- and choked to death in a Colorado sanitarium.

Good post.

Also, this:

"A man; specif., the exact kind of man needed for a particular purpose. 1936: "Well, I'm your huckleberry, Mr. Haney." Tully, "Bruiser," 37. Since 1880, archaic.

Gray Ghosft...Thanks for the background...adds punch to the line and explains Ringo’s reaction better.

“I’m your blueberry” would hardly be threatening or challenging now would it?
