Rep. Eric Swalwell of California might have left the presidential race, but his signature issue is still on the primary ballot.
After the mass shootings in El Paso and Dayton earlier this month, Swalwells proposal for a mandatory buyback of all assault-style weapons was embraced by the congressman who represented the Texas border city, former Rep. Beto ORourke giving the idea its highest-profile platform yet.
Swalwell has been actively advising presidential candidates to follow his lead, telling them in conversations that the moms will have your back, even as critics denounce the plan as gun confiscation that would turn ordinary Americans into criminals.
If you want to ban future sales, I actually think intuitively you're already there, Swalwell said. You recognize these are weapons we cant have in our communities, and the next step shouldn't be that hard, which is to get the ones that are there now.

Kinda hard to use nukes without killing your own base.
We should be talking about Regulating Commercial Speech for Compensation or Gain.
I believe the “Precedent” has already been set for this:
Every American Citizen has a Right to take flying lessons, and if qualified, receive their Pilots License.
As a Private Pilot is a BIG CRIME for me to use my RIGHT to Pilot an Airplane for Compensation or Gain, unless I have a SPECIAL License(commercial) which subjects the holder to Strict Scrutiny and Random Drug Testing whenever the Gubmint so demands. Violations can result of MY RIGHT TO FLY being Terminated in perpetuity.
I see NO reason why the Long Established and Upheld LAW can not be Applied to SPEECH for Compensation or Gain the same way.
YOU have a Right to FREE Speech, but what about Speech for Compensation or Gain.??
As their goal, from their point of view, becomes more attainable, their masks start to come off and the real Socialists emerges.
Take care.
I’ve heard in my area that like-minded people are forming protective groups to back each other up. Most are former military. Sounds like a good idea.
You can’t buy back that which was never yours.
Also, one drug dealer with a couple of semi=automatic rifles wounded 6 cops and shut down a couple of city blocks for the better part of a day. Times that by say...at least a million.
How can they buy back something they never owned?
Gun buybacks = compensated confiscation.
If you have to enforce your laws at the muzzle of a gun, it’s probably a law for the rulers, not the people.
If you’re burying it then you don’t need it. Obviously not going to use it for its genuine intention.
And so....If the public (ie: American Citizens) refuse to comply with an unconstitutional federal order, this guy is suggesting that the government use NUKES on them?
YIKES!
Well, that would kick the Second into gear.
This other article was linked from the piece. Those of you who haven’t joined the NRA should consider doing so. It doesn’t cost much to take the greatest step for now towards defending our freedoms, and there are many other benefits.

Excerpt:
“Among many of the plans points, branded under the acronym C.H.A.N.G.E, is a proposal to raise the national standard for gun ownership, create a national licensing and registry system, enact a ban on assault weapons and high-capacity magazines, and create a national gun buyback program.”
Gonna be kinda hard for these commies to nuke us from up on those lampposts.
Nuker and DUI boy? Real moral pillars.
The Left is so obsessed that they now think that Trump is their main obstacle to getting our guns. They have quite a surprise coming, even if Trump goes entirely on their side.
I met him when he was first running. Claimed to be centrist and was ex-military. I actually voted for him against Pete Stark, a Leftist loon.
Now Swalwell is the same loon.
Liberalism is truly a sickness.
I never said they did.
Beto ORourke is a total loser - Benjy Sarlin’s lame for quoting such a nothing...
I’m old enough to remember when NBC was a respected news source... not some third world gossip factory.
Just a general comment about the idea of buy backs. Not saying you did.
Let’s see if I understand this. There are more firearms in the USA tan people. That includes felons and children. The typical cost of a used firearm is somewhere between $200 and $800 with some more and others less.
So using round numbers; say 300 million people and $500 per firearm, we are looking at $150,000,000,000, if I did my math correctly. So that is more than the federal government spends in a year on education.
I wonder what they would cut from the budget to fund this? Silly me, Democrats believe money grows on trees. Never mind it would be the same source as “Medicare for all.”
